DISHER is currently partnering with a global, West Michigan company on their need for a Product Engineering Manager. In this role, you will lead their product engineering team. This leadership role is focused on coaching and developing a team of 6 product engineers while implementing structured engineering processes and driving accountability. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact by establishing best practices, leading cultural change, and building team capability in evidence-based problem solving.
What you will get to do:
- You will spend about 80% of your time coaching and leadership, with 20% on hands-on technical work
- Supervise, train, and develop 6 Product Engineers
- Coach team through structured problem-solving methodologies (A3, 8D, or similar)
- Establish accountability systems for on-time delivery
- Give and receive critical feedback effectively
- Implement and maintain standard engineering practices including A3 problem solving
- Lead efforts to review and update procedures, standards, and guidelines with focus on continuous improvement
- Guide evidence-based problem solving using mathematics and physics
- Coordinate development and implementation of new products utilizing the Product Development Process
- Establish project timelines and monitor progress with team members
- Coordinate with Produce Line Manager to identify and prioritize engineering opportunities
- Utilize Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools to create, store, and manage engineering documentation
- Provide technical support to other departments as required
- Visit customers to investigate/resolve field concerns (approximately once every other month)
- Support installations, troubleshooting, and data collection on new products
- Engage with suppliers regarding product manufacture and quality management
What will make you successful:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineer with at least 5 years of experience
- Strong coaching abilities with proven track record developing engineering teams
- Expertise in structured problem-solving methodologies (A3, 8D, or similar tools)
- Experience leading change management and cultural transformation initiatives
- Experience establishing accountability and on-time delivery
- Must have the current and continuing right to work in the United States of America without restrictions or expirations
