Posted February 17, 2026

Job Overview

Are you an engaged leader with a passion for technology, mechatronics, and innovation? Do you want to shape the future of farming in a role that combines strategic vision with hands-on leadership – both locally and globally? If so, this could be your next challenge!

About the Role

As Head of R&D Mechatronics Agriculture, you will play a key role in driving technology leadership for JOST’s Business Line Agriculture. You will lead and develop the Agricultural Mechatronics department in close collaboration with other R&D teams, product management, and JOST’s global Mechatronics and Digitalization organization.

Your task is to ensure innovation, quality, and efficiency in product development. At JOST, mechatronics means integrating mechanics, electronics, hydraulics, control theory, and computer science to create intelligent, efficient, and connected systems.

This is a role where you can shape both technology and people. You will build an environment where engineers grow, collaborate and succeed together while driving innovation forward.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of currently 11 skilled engineers in systems, software, controls, electronics, hydraulics, and mechatronics-related mechanical design.

  • Bridge user needs and technology to drive innovation and maintain technology leadership.

  • Enable collaboration and efficiency through continuous improvement and proactive leadership.

  • Ensure product quality and compliance with standards in quality, functional safety, and cybersecurity.

  • Define and manage the R&D roadmap for Agricultural Mechatronics with key stakeholders.

  • Oversee resource and financial planning at group and project levels.

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders – internally across the organization and externally with customers and partners.

The role is located in Brännland just outside of Umeå and you will have the possibility to work 2 days per week from home.

Your Profile

We are looking for an engaged leader who combines strategic thinking with a hands-on approach. You are confident in technical discussions, thrive in collaborative environments, and enjoy representing your team both internally and externally.

We believe you have:

  • A higher university degree in engineering (e.g., mechatronics, engineering physics, computer science, electrical engineering).

  • Proven experience in leading teams or projects with an inclusive, coaching leadership style.

  • Broad technical knowledge linking mechanics and hydraulics with digital domains like software and electronics.

  • Experience in product development using formal methodologies (e.g., quality, functional safety, cybersecurity) in industries such as automotive, construction equipment, forestry, defense, telecom, or medtech.

  • A strategic and entrepreneurial mindset – combining long-term planning with a “let’s do it” attitude.

  • Strong communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
