Job Overview

We are looking for a Director of Learning Support for an international high school in Shanghai. This position is available from the upcoming 2026–27 academic year in February 2026.

Job responsibilities

  • Design, lead, and oversee a whole-school Learning Support model aligned with the school’s bilingual and international mission 
  • Develop policies and procedures for early identification, intervention, and ongoing support for students with learning needs
  • Establish clear systems of responsibility and communication among teachers, grade leaders, parents, and administrators
  • Assess students referred for learning concerns using appropriate formal and informal tools to understand their learning profiles and barriers to success 
  • Create and review Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) with measurable goals, accommodations, and targeted interventions
  • Track student progress, adjust support strategies where needed, and share updates with all relevant stakeholders
  • Plan and lead professional development for teachers on inclusive practices, differentiation, and effective support strategies
  • Work closely with academic leaders and relevant departments (e.g. Innovation and Technology, Student Guidance) to build school-wide capacity for inclusion 
  • Develop and manage documentation, data collection, and reporting processes to evaluate programme impact and guide improvement
  • Ensure confidentiality, compliance with relevant guidelines, and alignment with international best practices in learning support and special education

Requirements

  • Master’s degree preferred in Special Education, Educational Psychology, or a related field (strong bachelor’s with relevant experience also considered) 
  • Several years of experience in learning support/special education, ideally with leadership or coordination responsibilities
  • Strong understanding of inclusive education and learning support in international or bilingual school settings
  • Confident in assessing student needs, designing interventions, and working with ILPs
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple students, cases, and projects at the same time
  • Effective communicator who can build positive relationships with students, families, teachers, and school leaders
  • Collaborative, student-centred mindset and the resilience to work in a cross-cultural environment
