Job Overview

Maintain adherence to corporate, accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in the timely and accurate processing, reviewing, and preparing of complex general ledger and bank reconciliations. Complete project work with tight deadlines. Guide and be a resource for credit union staff.

Essential Functions

  • Play a key role in completing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Responsible for reviewing, auditing, and maintaining a complete and accurate general ledger, including but not limited to: Complex general ledger reconciliations.
  • Member rewards and VISA deposit account balances. 
  • Journal entries for a variety of insurance expenses, member fees, and employee compensation related to current product offerings.
  • Daily branch and ATM machine check processing.
  • Review and audit the branch vault cash and over/short transactions and balances.
  • Complete federal and state tax withholding payments and entries to ensure accurate filing.
  • Review and resolve all monetary transactions that hit the unposted account, and work with other credit union employees and departments to guide and train on correct processing.
  • Ensure Balance Sheet accounts have correct balance at month-end.
  • Review and audit mortgages currently in funding status and ensure loans in process and the loan warehouse are correct for the month-end.
  • Review and audit accounts >90 days delinquent and backout system-generated monthly interest accrual entries.
  • Review and audit member dividends payable accounts to ensure all accounts are paid out correctly and on time.
  • Review and audit allowance for loan loss general ledgers to ensure transactions are correct for regulatory reporting needs.
  • Review and audit armored cash management and foreign currency.
  • Review and adjust monthly repo balances, negative deposit accounts, and member aircraft expenses.
  • Represent Accounting on projects vital to changes in accounting based on requirements and goals.
  • Work collaboratively and develop successful partnerships with staff across all departments and branches.
  • Assist with both internal/external audits by preparing schedules, researching data, clarifying inquiries, and providing explanations.
  • Provide backup support to other positions within the accounting department.
  • Create and update procedures on tasks related to accounting and job responsibilities.
  • Identify and implement changes to processes that increase accuracy and efficiency and/or increase income and decrease expenses.
  • Look for opportunities to further education and skills to meet needs as business demands change.
  • Bank Secrecy Act: Remains cognizant of and adheres to Wings policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.
