In this permanent full-time role, based at Epworth Richmond, you will lead and role-model the delivery of emergency medicine services to over 30,000 presentations each year. You will be responsible for direct clinical services across thirty-one treatment spaces including two resuscitation bays and a fast-track cubicle area. Reporting to the Director of Medical Services and through to the Executive General Manager at Epworth Richmond, you will provide leadership, governance, and strategic vision to a strong and diverse team in the Emergency Department.
The role includes overseeing a headcount of 80+ emergency physicians, career medical officers and registrars and working alongside the Nurse Unit Manager and the Critical Care Services Manager to ensure a strong, collegiate team-based approach in the way the Department operates.
Emergency Medicine in Australia is evolving and adapting to the needs of the community; there is growing demand for private Emergency Medicine to optimise patient flow and resource management in order to deliver safe, high quality, evidence based clinical care to maximise our patients’ health outcomes and experience. In a not-for-profit organisation, it is critical to ensure constant review of efficiency, costs, and team contributions, and to deliver a high quality, financially viable Emergency service which enhances Epworth’s reputation as a centre of excellence.
In the context of continuous improvement, this role will contribute to any internal or external reviews being undertaken within the Emergency Department to ensure our service continues to deliver excellent patient care and provides a supportive and cohesive working environment.
You’ll make an impact by:
- Providing expert supervision, advice and mentoring to medical staff to support the delivery of safe, evidence-based care
- Working collaboratively with nursing leadership to improve health outcomes and patient experience
- Effectively communicating with inpatient services to ensure safe patient handover
- Monitoring consumer service delivery, maintaining strong person-centred care
- Maintaining strong budgetary oversight
- Undertaking relevant duties both within the ED and the hospital with representation on required committees
