The Role
We are looking for a Senior Associate - Market Shaping to join our India Safe Water team to support our activities related to rapid programmatic scaling and reports to the Senior Manager, Strategy & Operations. This role involves supporting efforts to strengthen India’s domestic supply ecosystem for water treatment chemicals, particularly chlorine-based products e.g. TCCA90, contractors for in-line chlorination (ILC) device procurement, installation, and comprehensive maintenance services, and other program related products and vendors. The role involves conducting market and policy analyses, engaging with manufacturers and distributors, and supporting the design and implementation of strategies to improve product and vendor availability, affordability, and quality. You will play a vital role in supporting vendor management and fostering sector partnerships to advance our mission of safe water access across India.
The position is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of markets and public health, combining analytical rigor with stakeholder engagement.
Further, this role also involves assisting with project management, data synthesis, reporting, and stakeholder coordination to ensure the seamless execution of program goals such as process improvement, system development, and team capacity building. Candidates who enjoy tackling complex problems and flexibility in their role will excel. The candidate must be capable of proactively identifying and addressing challenges and opportunities. Timely completion of deliverables, pro-active communication, and quick thinking on their feet are key traits that we are looking for. The successful candidate does not need to come from a traditional development background.
Responsibilities
Market Shaping (30%)
- Support market assessments for key water treatment commodities, including demand estimation, supply chain mapping, pricing trends, and market context.
- Work closely with internal teams and external partners to gather information and surface opportunities for scaling ILC solutions.
- Provide analytical inputs into strategy development led by senior team members that encourage adoption of ILC technologies across demand and supply-side actors.
- Assist in implementing market-shaping activities such as supplier landscaping, sourcing exercises, and preparation of technical assistance materials.
- Provide background research, briefing notes, and coordination support for ISW’s participation in relevant forums or meetings.
- Track progress against market-shaping tasks and maintain updated documentation, including KPIs and internal trackers.
Stakeholder Management (30%)
- Support engagement with manufacturers, distributors, and other supply-chain actors, primarily through preparatory research, logistics, and follow-up.
- Coordinate with government agencies, procurement entities, and technical experts under guidance from senior team members.
- Assist in organizing vendor symposia and similar events, ensuring smooth execution and effective communication.
Materials and Report Drafting (20%)
- Draft internal materials to support trainings, meetings, and planning processes.
- Analyze and summarize information from internal and external sources to support work planning and decision-making.
- Assist in developing and organizing training content, including videos and resource compilations.
- Prepare meeting notes, program updates, and supporting documents for internal and external use.
Project Management (10%)
- Support project planning by helping track timelines, milestones, and deliverables.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders as needed, ensuring clear communication and documentation.
- Maintain organized documentation for project workstreams and contribute to process improvement efforts.
Flex Capacity (10%)
- Provide ad hoc support for strategic planning, learning, monitoring, and other emerging needs as the program scales.
Requirements
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, engineering, public policy, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 2–4 years of professional experience in consulting, supply chain management, public health, or development sector roles
- Excellent spoken and written English and Hindi; Other languages are a plus
- Ability to synthesize information clearly and draft high-quality written documents keeping to tight deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders
- Proactively communicate relevant updates and bottlenecks requiring attention or support from leadership
- Ability to develop recommendations based on qualitative and quantitative analysis
- Able to work within a matrixed, complex organizational structure
- Passion for the mission and values of Evidence Action and for creating value in international development
- Prepared to travel within India, as required, to support government engagements, programs, and other organizational needs (approximately 20% of the time)

This role is based at New Delhi, India.
