Senior Software Engineer

The Role

This is a great opportunity to join the Fastmarkets Software Engineering Team to help continue grow our technology working alongside highly skilled colleagues enabling us to accelerate our product delivery and scale our business. This team develop, enhance and support our flagship digital platform, serving global customers with critical price data, news and analytics in the commodities markets we serve. We make this data and intelligence easily accessible through multiple channels including web, desktop, API, Excel and mobile applications, enabling customers to integrate our digital offering into their business workflows.

In this hands-on role, you will be a senior member of a globally distributed Agile team reporting to the Engineering Manager. In this technical role, the Engineer will be working as part of a global team of Software Engineers, Business Analysts and Product Managers to successfully develop and deliver new features. This includes contributing to major projects that make a difference to Fastmarkets customers both in our existing markets such as metals, forest products and agricultural commodity sectors.

Working closely alongside the Digital Product team, the Engineer will be principally working within an expert group with a focus on the search functionality across our digital platform.  There will also be opportunities to develop a wider knowledge across all dimensions of the Fastmarkets platform, enabling them to be equipped with both business and technical expertise to tackle Fastmarkets’ most exciting business challenges.

Our technical stack is .NET, GraphDB and Elastic Search and our cloud infrastructure is Azure and we seek to use the latest and greatest relevant technologies in our work.

Fastmarkets is also widely adopting AI-assisted practices and tooling (Anthropic Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, CodeRabbit etc.) to aid our skilled engineering and product teams accelerate and enhance delivery throughout the product delivery lifecycle.

Principal Accountabilities

Software Design and Development

• Implementation of technical solutions for new features and product enhancements

• Adhere to sound software engineering design principles; design patterns, SOLID code etc.
• Ensuring solutions are developed to be scalable, flexible, resilient and secure
• Support the ongoing maintenance of existing Fastmarkets software
• Use of AI-assisted development tools as part of the standard workflow to accelerate implementation and testing, while retaining full ownership of design decisions and code quality

Quality Management

• Ensure code is well structured, clean, readable, testable, and efficiently written 
• Ensure code is reviewed, engineering standards are maintained and strive to continually drive standards up
• Ensure appropriate automated and manual tests for new features are designed and implemented
• Ensure appropriate documentation is maintained

Leadership and Collaboration

• Showing initiative and drive for continuous improvement of systems and processes
• Participating in and contributing to team meetings and stand ups, bring in new ideas
• Working collaboratively with other engineers, product developers and business analysts
• Helping to resolve support issues where appropriate
