Environmental Health QA Analyst

Salaried, full-time USD 73,000.0 - 74,250.0

Job Overview

Environmental Health QA Analyst

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A TEAM MEMBER WITH GOVERNMENTAL PUBLIC HEALTH EXPERIENCE (LOCAL / TRIBAL / STATE / FEDERAL). IF YOU HAVE THAT EXPERIENCE, PLEASE ENSURE IT IS CLEAR ON YOUR RESUME.

What do we mean by governmental public health? We're looking for people who have worked directly for a public health agency: a local health department, tribal health organization, state health department, or federal public health agency like CDC or HRSA. We require this because there's no substitute for the lived experience of navigating government systems, understanding the constraints public health staff face, and developing genuine empathy for the people doing this work. That empathy shapes how we build solutions.

Compensation Note: If a salary range is listed for this position, please note that we will be offering at the starting point of the band. We cover 100% of your health insurance!

Role Overview

We're seeking an Environmental Health QA Analyst who finds satisfaction in making sure things work exactly as they should. You're the person who notices when something is slightly off, who thinks through edge cases others miss, and who won't sign off until you're confident the solution will hold up in the real world.

This role focuses on environmental health workflows. You'll be testing systems that support restaurant inspections, permit applications, complaint tracking, and other environmental health functions. Your understanding of how these programs actually operate will help you spot issues that someone without that background would miss. You'll know that an inspector in the field needs the mobile app to work offline, or that a permit workflow has to account for multiple review stages.

This is a role for someone who takes pride in catching problems before users do. You'll dig into applications, document what you find, and work with developers to get it fixed. You're not just checking boxes on a test script. You're thinking critically about whether the solution will actually work for the health department staff who depend on it.

You'll be part of a collaborative team working on our PH360 platform and client implementations. Your public health experience will make you an advocate for the end user, ensuring that what we deliver is reliable, intuitive, and built for how public health actually works.

How You'll Work

You'll be part of an Agile Release Train (ART) that follows SAFe principles. This means:

  • Program Increment (PI) Planning: You'll participate in quarterly planning sessions, helping identify testing needs and contributing your environmental health perspective
  • Sprint Collaboration: You'll work in two-week sprints with daily standups, regular backlog refinement, and sprint retrospectives
  • Continuous Testing: You'll test features as they're developed, providing rapid feedback to the development team
  • Cross-functional Partnership: You'll work closely with developers, solutions analysts, and architects to ensure quality throughout the development process

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test plans and test cases for environmental health applications
  • Identify, document, and track defects with clear steps to reproduce
  • Verify that solutions work correctly across different scenarios and edge cases
  • Test environmental health workflows including inspections, permits, complaints, and reporting
  • Collaborate with developers to troubleshoot issues and verify fixes
  • Bring your public health perspective to testing, anticipating how real users will interact with the system
  • Participate in requirements reviews to identify potential issues early
  • Contribute to improving QA processes and testing standards
  • Perform regression testing to ensure new changes don't break existing functionality

Experience Required

  • 1+ years working for a governmental public health agency (local, state, federal, or tribal)
  • Experience with environmental health programs (inspections, permitting, complaints, or similar)
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Ability to clearly document issues and communicate findings
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative
  • Comfort working with AI tools and technology platforms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with software testing or QA (formal or informal)
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or similar platforms
  • Understanding of test management tools (Jira, TestRail, or similar)
  • Experience with Agile or SAFe methodology
  • Background in environmental health data systems or reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of API testing or automated testing concepts

What We Offer for Your Growth

  • Training: We'll help you develop formal QA skills and methodologies
  • Mentorship: You'll work alongside experienced team members who are invested in your success
  • Learning Time: Our natural consulting rhythm includes quieter periods that create space for professional development
  • Meaningful Work: You'll help ensure that public health technology actually works for the people who use it
