Health & Safety Specialist

A Day In The Life

• Manage the safety requirements of operational construction sites and equipment
• Conduct safety evaluations of Flynn project sites using documentation and standardized processes
• Ensure that sub-contractors adhere to required safety standards in keeping with Flynn policy/legislation
• Identifying potential risks and safety hazards during a project with involvement throughout the job life cycle (estimate, pre-mobilization, construction and autopsy)
• Performing accident and incident investigations as per the company’s health and safety programs
• Maintain a conducive working relationship with all management, superintendents, project managers through education and giving practical on site application options
• Assisting with the communication and implementation of the company’s claims management and return to work programs
• Be proactive in recommending changes to improve the safety programs
• Participate in the development and implementation of safety training programs
• Conducting new worker safety orientations and other required training programs as needed
• Report writing and maintaining of all required documentation
• Attending and supporting monthly safety committee meetings as required
• Frequent visits to job sites and various areas of Vancouver Island and surrounding areas when required

What We Are Seeking

• Education and/or training in Environmental/Occupational Health and Safety, NCSO or equivalent experience is an asset
• Experience in a safety role within a construction environment is an asset
• Knowledge of the COR process is considered a strong asset
• Safety knowledge in Fall Protection, Fire Prevention and WHMIS
• Knowledge and practical experience in incident investigation
• Experience/knowledge handling workplace injury management
• Strong administrative and organizational skills
• Computer literate in Windows applications; Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Presentation skills are an asset
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Team attitude with a willingness to learn
• Valid driver’s license required
