Te Tūranga – About the role
At Foodstuffs North Island, data powers everything we do – from keeping shelves stocked to enabling smarter decisions across our iconic retail brands.
We’re investing in modern data platforms and we’re looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer – Data to help ensure our data is accurate, reliable, and trusted.
This role sits within our growing QA Engineering practice and works closely with Data Engineering squads to uplift how data quality is built and validated across large‑scale data platforms.
You’ll play a hands‑on role in testing complex data platforms and pipelines that support mission‑critical business outcomes. Working within Agile delivery squads, you’ll combine strong data testing skills with an automation‑first mindset, helping ensure data quality is embedded end‑to‑end.
This is a great role for someone who enjoys thinking holistically about data flows, integrations, and performance in a fast‑paced FMCG environment.
In this role, you will be:
- Championing data quality across enterprise data platforms
- Partnering with delivery squads to shape data testing approaches early
- Testing ETL / ELT pipelines and validating large, complex datasets
- Writing and executing SQL and other query scripts for data validation
- Contributing to automated data testing, reconciliation, and integration coverage
- Supporting performance and scalability testing during peak data volumes
- Identifying, managing, and clearly communicating data defects and risks
- Continuously improving tools, techniques, and testing approaches
- Sharing knowledge and contributing to a collaborative QA community
He kōrero mōu - About you
You’re curious, analytical, and passionate about data quality. You’re comfortable working with modern data platforms and enjoy collaborating with engineers, analysts, and product partners to deliver high‑quality outcomes.
You’ll bring:
- Data testing with strong SQL skills
- Validating ETL / ELT pipelines in data warehouse environments
- Scripting or programming (e.g. Python, R, Java, C#, Ruby)
- Modern data platforms such as BigQuery, Databricks, Snowflake, Fabric, Synapse, or Redshift
- API testing and test management tools
- Agile delivery environments and continuous improvement
It’s a bonus if you also have:
- Data platform performance or load testing experience
- Power BI, Tableau, or other data visualisation tools
- ETL/ELT testing tools or frameworks like QuerySurge, iCEDQ, dbt, Great Expectations or PyTest.
- CI/CD exposure.
- FMCG, Retail, or Wholesale exposure.
