Job Overview

The Publishing Manager is responsible for managing a team of Associates, Senior Associates,  owning stakeholder relationships, forecasting and managing production capacity, driving monetization execution, and maintaining high publishing quality standards.

This is a managerial role that also requires deep CMS expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to proactively identify and resolve risks before they impact the business.


Key Responsibilities

Production Planning & Resource Management

  • Own end-to-end Production delivery for assigned vertical(s), ensuring the team has adequate capacity to meet business, SEO, and business asks.
  • Continuously monitor production demand vs. available for resourcing and raise risks early, working closely with the Head of Publishing to resolve constraints.
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into clear, actionable production plans, ensuring work is accurately scoped, ticketed, and prioritized for the wider Production team.

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary Production point of contact for SEO, Editorial, business development and other stakeholders within assigned verticals.
  • Ensure two-way communication: clearly communicating production constraints while constructively challenging asks that are not feasible or aligned with priorities.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and represent Production confidently in project planning and prioritization discussions.

CMS Ownership & Troubleshooting

  • Act as a subject-matter expert in WordPress and related CMS tooling, making complex changes when required.
  • Proactively troubleshoot CMS, templates, and publishing issues for the Production team and stakeholders.
  • Identify recurring issues and raise structured tech requests or process improvements to reduce issues/bugs.

People Management & Leadership


  • Directly line-manage a team of Associates and senior associates, providing clear direction, prioritization, and ongoing performance feedback.
  • Own workload distribution, ensuring tasks are assigned appropriately based on skill level, capacity, and business priority.
  • Coach and develop team members to improve publishing quality, CMS proficiency, speed, and commercial awareness.
  • Conduct regular check-ins, performance reviews, and development planning to build a high-performing and accountable team.

Monetization & Commercial Execution

  • Implement and optimize monetization strategies for assigned verticals in close partnership with revenue operations and monetization teams.
  • Proactively identify monetization opportunities within the CMS and raise recommendations to stakeholders.

Quality Control & Delivery


  • Act as the final line of defense before publication, with full accountability for ensuring content is free from errors across formatting, CMS configuration, SEO, monetization, and page structure
  • Ensure publishing accuracy, consistency, and adherence to SEO, monetization, and editorial standards.Step in to format and publish a range of article types when required, particularly during high-priority or high-risk launches.

Reporting & Tracking

  • Own and maintain production reporting for assigned verticals, tracking output, revisions, turnaround times, and quality metrics.
  • Use data to highlight risks, capacity gaps, and improvement opportunities to senior Publishing leadership.

Skills & Experience

Required

  • Proven experience directly managing a team, including workload planning, performance management, coaching, and driving accountability for delivery and quality
  • Strong experience in content production, publishing, or digital operations within a high-volume environment.
  • Advanced CMS expertise (minimum 5+ years) in WordPress, AEM, or similar platforms, with a clear understanding of how CMS works and how to navigate through the different moving parts of it.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with proven experience working with senior SEO, Editorial or business leaders.
  • Strong business mindset with an understanding of how content drives revenue and performance.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex publishing or CMS issues and propose practical, scalable solutions.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to simplify complexity for junior team members and confidently push back with senior stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment.

Desirable


  • Experience managing or influencing teams through delegation, project ownership, or informal leadership.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with the ability to apply this knowledge practically within a CMS.
  • Experience collaborating closely with SEO, CRO, or Product teams in a data-driven environment.
