Gersh Autism is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to join our team. As an RBT, you will work directly with students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). You will provide one-on-one instruction, behavioral support, and social skills training to help students achieve their individualized goals. This position requires strong communication skills, patience, and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of students with ASD.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and individualized education plans (IEPs) as developed by the BCBA.
- Provide direct one-on-one or small group support to students in the classroom and other school settings.
- Collect and record accurate data on student behaviors and progress, ensuring timely and detailed documentation.
- Assist in the implementation of teaching strategies to support academic, social, and behavioral development.
- Conduct behavior management and intervention strategies to decrease challenging behaviors and increase adaptive behaviors.
- Support students with daily living skills, including communication, self-regulation, and independence-building tasks.
- Collaborate with the teaching staff and other members of the school team to create a supportive learning environment.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and RBT supervision sessions with the BCBA.
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards in all aspects of the position.
Required Qualifications:
- Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification (must have an active RBT certification to qualify for the RBT position)
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred).
- Prior experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or in a special education setting.
- Ability to implement behavior intervention plans and collect data in accordance with the guidance of a BCBA.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work well within a team and interact professionally with students, families, and colleagues.
- Patience, flexibility, and a passion for working with students with special needs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow all school policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a school-based setting.
- Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and techniques.
- Ability to adapt to different learning styles and provide individualized support to students.
Location:
- Long Island City, NY
- Monday – Friday / 8AM-3:30PM (and once a week until 4PM for a team meeting)
- Occasional before and after school work hours at the discretion of the Administrative staff
- School / Classroom setting
- This is a 12-month school program
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to keep students safe from themselves and others and in some cases may need to implement CPI (therapeutic holds) procedures.
- Must be able to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations and in some cases be able to lift a child.
