Job Overview

What You Will Do as Vice President of Philanthropy:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all fundraising, donor engagement, and philanthropic initiatives across the organization.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive philanthropy strategies aligned with organizational priorities and long-term strategic goals.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors, planned gifts, corporate sponsors, foundations, and community partners.
  • Manage a personal portfolio of leadership donors while partnering closely with executive leadership on donor engagement and relationship development.
  • Lead annual giving initiatives, capital and endowment campaigns, grants, special events, and donor recognition programs.
  • Collaborate with the CEO, Board of Directors, Advisory Council, and senior leadership team to strengthen and expand philanthropic support.
  • Develop and oversee moves management processes for donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and retention.
  • Ensure excellence in donor communications, fundraising proposals, presentations, and stewardship strategies.
  • Establish fundraising metrics, reporting systems, and development budgets to evaluate effectiveness and support organizational growth.
  • Lead, mentor, and support development staff while fostering a donor-centered culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
  • Represent Good Samaritan within the community, strengthening relationships with philanthropic, nonprofit, and business leaders.
  • Stay informed on current trends, best practices, and emerging opportunities in philanthropy and nonprofit leadership.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • CFRE certification preferred
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive fundraising and development leadership experience
  • Proven success securing major gifts and leading comprehensive fundraising initiatives and capital campaigns
  • Strong relationship-building skills with donors, executives, board members, and community leaders
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to execute both long-term vision and day-to-day fundraising initiatives
  • Experience managing development teams, budgets, and donor databases/CRM systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating effectively across teams
  • Experience with social media and donor engagement strategies
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends

Schedule & Benefits

Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 8:30 AM–5:00 PM. Full-time leadership position with flexibility to support organizational priorities, donor engagement activities, and occasional evening or weekend community events.
