We are currently looking for a Senior Scientific Officer (Environmental Sciences) to support teaching and research in the School of Environment and Science’s Nathan laboratories. The position will be primarily supporting teaching activities, research-related fieldwork and, on occasion, also assisting in research laboratories and engagement activities. The role includes managing a team of technical staff, the upkeep of laboratory documentation, assessing the risk of activities, and assisting with H&S compliance in teaching laboratories.
As a Senior Scientific Officer, you will take on various challenges, using your skills and experience to drive meaningful change. Here’s how you’ll make it matter:
- Provide technical operations support to the work area including: supervision of staff; planning; set-up; refreshing; pre-running; logistics support; and dismantling of experiments for teaching laboratories.
- Collaborate with course conveners to facilitate the development, resourcing and delivery of new and existing experiments.
- Supervise and train Scientific Officers, Assistants, and Casual staff supporting the Ecology and Soil Sciences technical team ensuring they reach an acceptable level of competence through mentoring and support.
- Assist research efforts of Griffith University staff and students, and representatives from external organisations.
- Provide technical assistance, including training on equipment and advice on sample preparation, to Griffith University staff and students, and representatives from external organisations.

You will also have:
- A B.Sc. degree or equivalent with a major in environmental, biological, ecological or soil sciences and relevant practical experience, or an equivalent combination of education, skills and experience.
- Demonstrated practical experience in operating and maintaining equipment used by environmental science students and researchers.
- Experience in terrestrial fieldwork risk management and fieldwork related support.

This is a continuing, full time position primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations.

HEW 6 Salary - Base range - $91,843.49 - $97,964.71 + 17% super. Full package range is $107,456.89 - $114,618.72.
