Job Overview

As an Azure Synapse Data Engineer, you’ll take on complex local and global challenges, using your skills and experience to drive meaningful change. Here’s how you’ll make it matter:

  • Design, build and optimise scalable data pipelines that ingest, transform and deliver high-quality data across multiple platforms and environments.
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to enable reliable reporting, analytics and data-driven decision making.
  • Develop and maintain data models and data warehouse structures that support enterprise analytics and business intelligence solutions.
  • Implement best practice data governance, security and compliance standards to ensure the integrity, accessibility and ethical use of data.
  • Contribute to the modernisation of Griffith’s data ecosystem, supporting innovation, automation and continuous improvement across data and analytics capabilities.

This role supports the University’s capture, manipulation and presentation of data through enterprise data platforms and enables faster access to trusted data for a wide range of stakeholders.

You will also have:

  • Strong experience in designing and developing modern ETL/ELT and data integration solutions using cloud or hybrid data platforms.

  • Hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, including SQL pools, pipelines and notebooks.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop robust data ingestion processes from a variety of sources including databases, APIs and files.

  • Experience working with Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 and contemporary data lake architectures.

  • Strong data modelling capability, including dimensional modelling and/or Data Vault methodologies to support enterprise data warehouse solutions.

  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, PySpark or similar, with experience working across large and complex data sets and implementing data transformation logic.

  • Experience working in agile or contemporary delivery environments, with a collaborative and stakeholder-focused approach.

  • Familiarity with Git-based development, including branching strategies and CI/CD practices.

  • A strong commitment to data quality, governance, security and continuous improvement in data and analytics practices.

What we can offer
This is a fixed term (12month), full time position primarily based at the Griffith University Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations.

Griffith University’s sites are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.

Salary Range
The full time equivalent base salary will be HEW Level 8 range $113,713 – $127,923 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $133,044 – $149,669 per annum.
