Job Overview

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct avian-focused wildlife surveys including raptor, eagle, MBTA nesting bird, and burrowing owl surveys
  • Perform pre-construction, active construction, and follow-up compliance surveys in accordance with project specifications and regulatory requirements
  • Implement and monitor species-specific buffers and exclusion zones during nesting season
  • Coordinate directly with construction crews and field engineers to maintain compliance during active work
  • Provide clear field guidance and issue stop-work recommendations when nesting birds or other protected wildlife are at risk
  • Complete desktop environmental screenings and biological resource assessments
  • Support wetland delineations, vegetation surveys, and post-construction monitoring as needed
  • Prepare concise, defensible field reports and compliance documentation
  • Contribute to regulatory permit documents including Topsoil Protection Plans, Dust Suppression Plans, and Light Mitigation Plans submitted to the Energy and Carbon Management Commission
  • Ensure compliance with MBTA, ESA, BGEPA, NEPA, CWA, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and US Fish and Wildlife guidance

Tools and Technical Skills:

  • Field data collection using ESRI services such as ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, and Survey123
  • Use of environmental datasets including USDA Plant Database, NHD, and NWI
  • Accurate navigation and documentation using maps, GPS, and cardinal directions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, conservation biology, ecology, or related field.
  • Strong bird identification and avian survey experience
  • Experience working on active construction sites
  • Ability to work long field days (10-12 hours), often in high-heat conditions
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and comfortable working independently in the field
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Ability to travel extensively and work away from home for extended periods
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
