Casual Child & Family First Aid Facilitator
Full-time Mid-Senior LevelJob Overview
He aha te tūranga - About the role:
Our Caring for Kids first aid course is a practical 3-hour session, designed with parents and caregivers in mind, focusing on key life-saving skills without the pressure of formal assessments. It provides clear, practical guidance on recognising and responding to the most common medical conditions and injuries in children and infants, aged 0-8 years.
The Child & Family First Aid Facilitator is responsible for delivering engaging, accessible, and high-quality non-accredited first aid education to adults. Through interactive, learner-centred delivery, the facilitator supports parents, caregivers, and whānau to build confidence, practical understanding, and readiness to act in everyday settings such as the home, school, early childhood environments, sport, and the wider community.
In this role, you will:
- Deliver engaging, inclusive, and practical child and family first aid sessions that build adult learners’ confidence to respond effectively to emergencies involving infants and children.
- Create a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive learning environment that recognises and values the role of whānau, collective care, and community strengths, including the needs of Māori, Pasifika, and other diverse groups.
- Maintain training resources, equipment, and learning spaces in good working order to ensure a safe and professional experience for all participants.
- Provide clear, encouraging guidance and feedback to learners, supporting confidence-building and understanding rather than formal assessment.
- Demonstrate strong customer service and community engagement, acting as an ambassador for St John and promoting the value of child and family first aid knowledge across Aotearoa.
- Complete required administrative and reporting tasks accurately and on time, ensuring participant records, course information, and feedback are managed in accordance with organisational standards.
Our Caring for Kids courses are run nationally, therefore we're on the lookout for a number of facilitators. These are casual roles, working only as and when required. Our courses will predominately be run on weekends, so a high degree of flexibility is required. The full day (including set up, teaching, and pack down) will run approximately 4-5 hours.
