Team Leader AOD

Are you an experienced AOD nurse who is dynamic, solutions-focused and ready to make a genuine difference?

We are looking for an experienced Clinical Team Leader – AOD to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team at the Melbourne Immigration Detention Centre.

This is more than a traditional clinical leadership role. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the AOD service, develop your team, influence how care is delivered and drive meaningful improvements across a complex primary healthcare environment.

Working closely with the Health Services Manager and broader multidisciplinary team, you’ll bring strong clinical judgement, a collaborative leadership style and a practical, solutions-focused approach to the delivery of high-quality, person-centred AOD care.

Monday – Friday | 0730am – 1530pm

$4,000 Sign-On Bonus available for eligible candidates*

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, you’ll provide clinical and operational leadership to the AOD team and play a key role in strengthening the service.

You will:

• Lead the delivery of specialist AOD care, including assessment, withdrawal management, treatment planning, harm reduction and referrals.
• Provide visible and supportive clinical leadership, mentoring and professional guidance to the AOD team.
• Oversee the delivery of withdrawal support and the OOAT Pharmacotherapy Program.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure care is responsive, coordinated and person-centred.
• Use your clinical expertise and judgement to identify risks, solve problems and support effective decision-making.
• Identify opportunities to improve AOD services, processes and models of care and help turn ideas into practical solutions.
• Support a positive team culture that encourages accountability, collaboration, learning and continuous improvement.
• Lead clinical reviews, case conferences, multidisciplinary meetings and quality improvement activities.
• Support staff development through education, supervision and professional development.
• Promote high standards of clinical documentation, care planning, auditing and clinical governance.
• Build strong and constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Partner with the Health Services Manager to support effective day-to-day service delivery and broader operational priorities.

You’ll bring:

• Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1).
• A postgraduate qualification in AOD or Mental Health with 5+ years’ specialist AOD experience, or 7+ years’ specialist AOD nursing experience.
• At least 5 years’ post-graduate, non-telehealth clinical experience, including AOD care.
• Previous clinical leadership or healthcare management experience.
• Strong knowledge of AOD practice, withdrawal management, pharmacotherapy and trauma-informed care.
• Sound clinical judgement and the ability to confidently assess risk and make decisions in a complex environment.
• A solutions-focused mindset and the ability to look beyond the immediate problem to identify practical and sustainable solutions.
• The ability to lead change, influence others and bring people with you.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A genuine commitment to developing people, strengthening team capability and creating a positive workplace culture.
• An understanding of clinical governance, relevant legislation, policies and professional standards.
• Strong organisational, digital and problem-solving skills.

You’ll be comfortable working in a complex environment, asking questions, identifying opportunities and working with others to develop better ways of delivering care.
