A UniFirst Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for technical oversight of a facility's maintenance, including managing a team, ensuring equipment is repaired and maintained, and overseeing safety and environmental compliance. Key duties include diagnosing mechanical and electrical problems, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting equipment like PLCs, and managing the maintenance department’s safety procedures and regulatory requirements. 

Core responsibilities

  • Supervision: Manage and assign tasks to maintenance staff, assume responsibility for all shifts, and oversee the implementation of safety and environmental compliance measures.
  • Technical repair and maintenance: Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues using blueprints, schematics, and manuals. This includes basic welding and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Preventative maintenance: Schedule and assign all preventative maintenance for facility and production assets following documented procedures.
  • Compliance and safety: Ensure adherence to all maintenance-related regulatory and environmental compliance requirements. Conduct safety procedures like Confined Space and Lockout/Tagout when necessary.
  • Testing and adjustments: Perform tests on systems like boilers and wastewater pre-treatment, record the results, and make necessary chemical adjustments.
  • Emergency response: Manage and assign equipment maintenance and repairs that may need to be completed outside of standard hours. 

Required skills and qualifications

  • Proven experience as a maintenance supervisor or in a similar role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of machinery, electrical systems, and repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Understanding of health & safety regulations and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and team leadership abilities.
