Job Role: Construction Estimator
Compensation range: $1,600 AUD - $2,000 AUD / Monthly
Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement
Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

A well-established construction business specialising in concrete, formwork, and excavation services. Founded by an experienced industry professional, the company is known for high-quality workmanship, reliable project delivery, and a practical, hands-on approach. They work across both residential and commercial projects, focusing on precision, technical accuracy, and strong collaboration with clients and crews.
Role Overview:
Our client is expanding their team and looking to bring on their first offshore member, a skilled Construction Estimator who can take ownership of the estimating process and free up time spent on quoting. This role is ideal for someone with strong Australian construction knowledge and a proactive, detail-focused approach to delivering accurate takeoffs and material assessments.
You’ll be working closely with the business owner and site crews to support tenders, quotations, and project preparation. As trust is built, there is room for the role to grow into a broader estimating and project support function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate takeoffs, quantities, volumes, and material estimates based on construction plans and specifications.
- Interpret drawings, engineering documentation, and site requirements to support pricing and quotation processes.
- Use CAD tools (preferred) to create or refine sectional drawings for crews, especially when plans are unclear or require clarification.
- Assist in developing cost estimates for concrete, formwork, civil, and related construction projects.
- Organise and maintain spreadsheets used for estimating, costing, and material planning.
- Communicate proactively with the owner regarding missing information, discrepancies, or opportunities to streamline estimating processes.
- Support the transition to more structured systems in the future (job management software implementation planned).
- Deliver estimates within agreed timelines and maintain responsiveness during Australian business hours.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Experience (Non-Negotiable)
- Minimum 5+ years estimating for Australian construction, ideally with strong experience in concrete, formwork and FRP.
- Good understanding of Australian building standards, construction sequencing and methodology.
2. Technical Skills
- Advanced digital take-off capability using Bluebeam, Groundplan, PlanSwift or similar.
Must be able to produce accurate:
- Concrete volumes
- Formwork areas
- Reinforcement quantities
- Height/level extractions
- Fully structured BOQs
3. Drafting & Set-Out Ability
- Must be able to prepare slab set-out plans, section details, and clear marked-up drawings for site and planning.
- Competent in Bluebeam or AutoCAD (or able to become competent very quickly).
4. Labour Component (We Will Train)
- Should be comfortable estimating labour hours with guidance.
- Willing to learn our formwork methodology, outputs and the way we build.
5. Communication & Availability
- Excellent English, written and verbal.
- Available during AEST work hours with fast response times.
- Comfortable jumping on quick calls and turning around urgent info when needed.
- Needs to operate like they’re “just in another office down the road.”
6. Professional Standards
- Detail-focused and checks their own work.
- Shows initiative, asks questions, and flags design issues.
- Reliable, organised and looking for a long-term role with us.
7. Work Samples Required
- Previous concrete/formwork take-offs
- Marked-up plans or set-out examples
- Any section details they’ve drawn
- A sample BOQ or breakdown

This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement.
