Job Overview

Location & Team Gatherings
Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016.  We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office – we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.

We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.
About This Role
As a Civil Engineer on Intersect's Development Engineering team, you will help advance complex clean energy projects from early feasibility through Issued for Construction (IFC) design. You will independently own early-stage civil due diligence, develop and refine constraint maps, optimize site layouts, and guide civil design elements through key project milestones. In this role, you will work closely with partners across Development, Engineering, Real Estate, GIS, Permitting, Construction, Finance, and Operations to ensure technical clarity, well-aligned decision-making, and strong ownership of deliverables. This position reports to the Development Engineering Manager and plays a pivotal role in shaping high-quality, technically robust designs that set Intersect’s projects up for success.

Team Overview
Development Engineering serves as Intersect’s civil engineering subject matter experts (SMEs) and project engineers for solar, wind, and energy storage projects. The team manages site design from early diligence through IFC and partners closely with EPCs, consultants, and internal stakeholders to drive efficient, constructible, cost-optimized layouts. Team members dive into detailed civil engineering work while applying project management rigor to ensure seamless project progression, from siting to procurement, construction, and operations. Joining this team means contributing to technical excellence at scale across some of the clean energy industry’s most transformative projects.

What You’ll Do

Project Development
Support project development from concept to completion, identifying and mitigating design, budget, and schedule risks, with a focus on civil engineering.

Site Design and Management
Own and manage site constraint maps, layouts, and designs, coordinating with external consultants and EPCs.

Layout Optimization
Optimize civil site layouts for efficient land use, considering factors like equipment selection, topography, environmental constraints, and permitting requirements.

Technical Diligence
Manage and coordinate site technical diligence activities, including hydrology and geotechnical studies.

Procurement and Construction Support
Provide civil engineering support during EPC contract execution.

What You’ll Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• Design Experience: 2+ years experience in design, project management, or construction of renewable energy projects.
• Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of civil design principles, technical diligence processes, and EPC construction standards for renewable energy projects is preferred.
• Renewable Energy Expertise: Working knowledge of wind and/or solar, including system design, optimization, and cost drivers is preferred.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and mitigate risks, analyze opportunities, and make sound engineering decisions.
• Collaboration and Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to thrive in a cross-functional and collaborative environment.
• Project Management: Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively.

Bonus points for:
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil3D
• Familiarity with automated layout tools and geospatial analysis software
• Experience in grading, stormwater management, and erosion control
• Experience with all phases of project development, from siting to construction
