SCADA Controls Engineer

Full-time, remote

Job Overview

We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. In December 2025, Google announced an agreement to acquire Intersect, to enable more data center and generation capacity to come online faster while accelerating energy development and innovation. After close, we’ll continue doing exactly what we were built to do - develop, construct, and operate the most ambitious power and data infrastructure in the country.

Intersect’s operations will remain separate from Alphabet and Google under the Intersect brand. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.

Location & Team Gatherings
Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016.  We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.

We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.
About This Position

Lead Plant Controls Integration

• Develop and troubleshoot SCADA-integrated control logic, including PPC interfaces, active/reactive dispatch, Volt/VAR optimization, and frequency response
• Coordinate multi-fuel plant control strategies to ensure seamless operational performance
• Integrate plant controls with third-party optimization and asset performance management platforms

Drive Grid Compliance and Commissioning Excellence

• Lead CHIL, FAT, SAT, and on-site commissioning activities to validate performance and grid readiness
• Own ERCOT nodal protocol implementation, telemetry standards, and performance validation processes
• Partner with ERCOT, TSPs, OEMs, and vendors to ensure seamless telemetry and control system integration

Strengthen Cross-Functional Execution

• Collaborate with Engineering, Construction, and Operations teams to troubleshoot and resolve high-impact control system challenges
• Provide technical leadership during high-stakes grid compliance and commissioning environments
• Build strong working relationships with ERCOT stakeholders, TSPs, OEMs, EPCs, and SCADA vendors

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
• 5+ years of experience in utility-scale power generation, independent power production, or clean energy infrastructure
• Direct experience supporting large-scale power plants operating within ERCOT or similar nodal markets
• Demonstrated expertise in SCADA system architecture design and review for utility-scale facilities
• Hands-on experience with Power Plant Controller (PPC) integration, active/reactive power dispatch logic, Volt/VAR optimization, and frequency response controls
• Experience troubleshooting PLCs and SEL-RTAC systems
• Proven success leading grid compliance testing, telemetry validation, and commissioning activities
• Strong working knowledge of ERCOT nodal protocols, TSP coordination, and grid interconnection requirements
• Experience integrating SCADA systems with third-party optimization and performance management platforms
