Fabrication & Rebuild Specialist

Job Overview

Position Summary

The Fabricator & Rebuild Specialist is responsible for building, repairing, and refurbishing equipment, machine components, and production assets to support plant operations. This role utilizes welding, machining, fabrication, and mechanical rebuild skills to extend equipment life, reduce downtime, and improve reliability. The specialist works closely with maintenance technicians, engineering, and production teams to design, modify, and rebuild equipment to meet operational needs.
 

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication & Welding

  • Fabricate custom parts, frames, brackets, guards, and equipment components.
  • Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Ensure all fabricated components meet quality, fit, and safety standards.

Equipment Rebuild & Repair

  • Disassemble, inspect, rebuild, and reassemble mechanical equipment and assemblies.
  • Restore worn or damaged components using welding, machining, and fitting techniques.
  • Perform precision measurements (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and recommend corrective actions.

Machining & Tooling

  • Operate lathes, mills, grinders, saws, and other fabrication equipment.
  • Cut, shape, drill, tap, and finish metal components to specification.
  • Verify tolerances and alignments on repaired or fabricated pieces.
  • Maintain and inventory all shop tools, equipment, & supplies.

Preventive Maintenance Support

  • Assist maintenance technicians by fabricating needed parts for PMs and repairs.
  • Improve equipment reliability by upgrading or strengthening existing components.
  • Document rebuilds, part replacements, and custom modifications.

Project Work & Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in equipment upgrade projects, line improvements, and installations.
  • Recommend design enhancements to increase reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Collaborate with engineering to prototype improved components and designs.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all plant safety policies, machine guarding standards, and PPE requirements.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe fabrication shop.
  • Ensure all work meets OSHA, food safety, and plant regulatory standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is a plant/office setting with varying degrees of temperatures and noise levels. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet/slippery floors. However, the vast amount of work is conducted in a climate-controlled office. Travel may be required.
