Position Overview:
Under general supervision of the Education Programs Supervisor, a Kidspace Camp Counselor is a Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Seasonal position responsible for creating an engaging camp experience for children at Kidspace Summer Camp. We are seeking enthusiastic, creative, and organized camp counselors to join our camp team and create the best day ever for every one of our campers!
Camp Counselors play a key role in teaching, coordinating, and carrying out daily indoor and outdoor activities. Camp Counselors work together to lead age-appropriate, play-based experiences that promote learning and growth, while maintaining a safe, friendly, and professional atmosphere. Our ideal camp counselor is upbeat, empathetic, motivated, adaptable, goofy, and responsible. At the end of the day, we are looking for team members who can give our campers a fun and safe experience
Summer Camp Overview:
Kidspace Camp is a day-camp serving children ages 5-8 that runs for eight weeks through the summer season during Monday – Friday, 8:45am to 3:00pm, with extended care from 3:00pm – 5:00pm.
Mandatory Dates :
- Onboarding & Camp Training: Monday, June 1, 2026 – Friday, June 5, 2026
- Camp Session Dates: Monday, June 8, 2026 - August 7, 2026
- Camp Wrap-Up: Monday, August 10, 2026 – Tuesday, August 11, 2026
- Short holiday break will occur Wednesday, July 1 – Friday, July 3, 2026
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build relationships with campers by providing guidance, motivation, and support throughout the day to keep them engaged and active in camp activities.
- Assure campers are always properly supervised and follow safety policies and procedures. This includes becoming familiar with individual camper’s medical and behavioral needs to be able to guide them appropriately.
- Lead and participate in various activities, such as arts and crafts, song and dance, games, and demonstrating and/or facilitating hands-on investigations and experiences.
- Be a role model to campers, staff, and families with positive attitude and appropriate behavior, setting an example regarding camp procedures and practices.
- Manage time and use organization skills to effectively support campers and deliver programming.
- Provide the Education Programs staff with prompt feedback and information so they can communicate with families and ensure a successful camp experience.
- Complete other camp-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Previous experience working with children in a camp, classroom, or informal education context preferred.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must be available for an 8–hour shift, Monday–Friday, between 7:45 am–5:00 pm. Each counselor will have at least one camp week of working half-day shifts (from 10am—2:30pm) during the 8-week season.
- Must be available to work the entire camp season, including training week and two wrap-up days (see above for dates).
- Comfortable working around children and crowds, and relating to guests in a safe, friendly, and professional manner.
- Be able to maintain a physically active role each day
- Comfort in acting appropriately to meet child safety policy, regulations, and emergency procedures.
- Must be physically able to respond to situations requiring first aid and assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury).
- Effective, intentional, and timely verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
- Physically able to (with reasonable accommodation) reach, bend, crouch, twist, push and/or pull up to 40 lbs., and lift and/or carry up to 20 lbs.
Additional Desired Skills:
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
- Experience leading and facilitating informal programming and/or games for early elementary aged children.
- Able to practice good judgement and decision making.
