Junior Underwriter
Job Overview

Reporting to the Senior Underwriting Manager and based out of our London office you will be responsible for underwriting new finance proposals that both protect and deliver value to Liberis. You will have the opportunity to use your experience to enhance our underwriting process while ensuring we stay within the organisation’s risk appetite.
- Underwriting new and repeat business requests, investigating multiple different pieces of information to make sound, rational decisions.
- Direct liaison with prospective customers to obtain additional information as well as potentially relaying approve/decline decisions.
- Acting as a referral point for internal stakeholders, specifically focused around ensuring the correct policies and procedures are being followed.
- Constantly challenging the way in which we underwrite to ensure we always have the right balance between customer experience and protecting Liberis from any potential risk.
What we think you’ll need
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics or any other quantitative fields. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Previous experience in an underwriting role, ideally small business finance (preferred but not essential)
- Confident in making decisions and being able to articulate these effectively
- Strong ability to decipher and interpret management accounts, cash flow statements, and financial trends to assess affordability, sustainability and overall credit risk
- Analytical skills, problem solving ability and meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to convey complex findings in a logical and easy-to-understand style
- Ability to refocus as needed to support a rapidly growing and evolving company

Working together in person helps us move faster, collaborate better, and build a great Liberis culture. Our hybrid working policy requires team members to be in the office at least 3 days a week, but ideally 4 days. At Liberis, we embrace flexibility as a core part of our culture, while also valuing the importance of the time our teams spend together in the office.
