Email Strategy Content Designer
Job Overview
Role Overview
A leading consumer technology organization is seeking a highly skilled Senior Content Designer to drive strategy, experimentation, and content development for its B2C lifecycle email program. This contractor will play a central role in shaping an email ecosystem that supports awareness, onboarding, retention, and re‑engagement across a growing portfolio of wearable devices.
The ideal candidate is both a strategist and a hands‑on creator—capable of crafting high‑performing email content, translating lifecycle strategy into actionable requirements, and building governance frameworks and playbooks that enable the program to scale responsibly.
Key Responsibilities
Email Optimization & Experimentation
- Lead continuous optimization of email content, targeting, sequencing, and cadence based on performance insights.
- Improve modular components (subject lines, preheaders, body structures, CTAs) to accelerate iteration and elevate quality.
- Design and execute 5–6 structured experiments across positioning, personalization, segmentation, cadence, and creative systems.
- Define hypotheses, success metrics, guardrails, and document learnings to build a durable experimentation foundation.
Lifecycle Expansion & Device Support
- Enhance lifecycle and resurrection email programs across multiple wearable devices.
- Identify opportunities to improve messaging effectiveness and support growth goals.
- Extend lifecycle email strategy to new device cohorts, ensuring consistency, clarity, and quality across surfaces.
Governance & Playbook Development
- Establish governance standards for targeting, frequency caps, suppression logic, content quality, and approval workflows.
- Create a comprehensive Wearables Email Playbook, including:
- Decision frameworks for when to email vs. use alternative channels
- Lifecycle principles and stage‑based guidance
- Experimentation standards and testing protocols
- Modular templates and content patterns
- QA checklists (rendering, links, fallbacks, personalization, accessibility, localization)
- Measurement fundamentals and holdout guidance
Onboarding Strategy Assessment
- Evaluate the current onboarding email series and determine whether it should continue, evolve, or be deprecated.
- Propose a refined onboarding strategy including audience definitions, triggers, messaging architecture, cadence, and success metrics.
- Recommend redesign, consolidation, or retirement based on evidence and constraints.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Product, Growth, Data Science/Analytics, Engineering, Design, and Legal/Privacy teams.
- Translate lifecycle strategy into clear, build‑ready requirements (event triggers, audience definitions, dynamic content rules, QA cases).
- Ensure alignment across teams and maintain high execution quality.
You’re a Strong Fit If You…
- Have led B2C lifecycle email programs across awareness, retention, and win‑back stages—ideally at scale.
- Operate independently, create clarity in ambiguous spaces, and drive execution without heavy oversight.
- Excel at conversion‑focused email writing, including hierarchy, skimmability, tone, and CTA clarity.
- Are fluent in lifecycle fundamentals:
- Stage mapping and entry/exit criteria
- Behavioral segmentation and suppression logic
- Triggered journeys vs. campaigns
- Frequency and sequencing strategy
- Bring a rigorous optimization mindset grounded in hypothesis‑driven experimentation and clean measurement.
- Can work effectively within a home‑grown or evolving tech stack, writing clear specs for engineering partners and maintaining QA rigor.
- Understand deliverability basics, including reputation, frequency discipline, unsubscribe/spam guardrails, and sunset policies.
- Communicate clearly, manage stakeholders effectively, and thrive in complex, evolving environments.
Nice to Have
- Experience developing governance frameworks or playbooks for scaled messaging programs.
- Familiarity with incremental measurement (holdouts, lift, novelty effects).
- Experience with consumer hardware ecosystems or multi‑device communication patterns.
- Accessibility and localization experience for email.
Required Skills
- Exceptional writing, editing, and content judgment.
- Demonstrated lifecycle/CRM or scaled communications experience.
- Strong project management and cross‑functional leadership.
- Proficiency in Figma for content structure, modules, and reviews.
