Sr. Database Administrator
Job Overview
Summary:
The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and optimization of Microsoft SQL Server database environments. This role ensures database platforms are secure, highly available, scalable, and performance-optimized, supporting mission-critical business applications. The position plays a key role in High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), database security, and production support. This position is based in KAEC and is an on-site role.
Responsibilities:
- Installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of SQL Server databases.
- Monitor database performance, availability, capacity, and overall health.
- Manage database permissions, roles, schemas, and access controls.
- Grant, modify, and revoke user access in line with security and compliance requirements.
- Implement and manage database security, auditing, and best practices.
- Perform database backup, restore, disaster recovery, and failover testing.
- Prepare, configure, and support Always On Availability Groups (AG).
- Plan, implement, and maintain High Availability (HA) clusters, including Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) and SQL Failover Cluster Instances.
- Perform regular database maintenance, patching, and version upgrades.
- Troubleshoot complex databases, performance, AG, HA cluster, and failover issues.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes for recurring incidents.
- Support application and development teams with query optimization and database design.
- Automate routine DBA tasks using T-SQL.
- Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and operational runbooks.
- Participate in on-call support and scheduled maintenance activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 8+ years hands-on DBA experience.
- Strong expertise in SQL Server architecture, performance tuning, and optimization.
- Always On AG and HA cluster (WSFC) experience
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL and Azure SQL, including administration, backup, and performance monitoring.
- Software development experience, with strong SQL scripting and database-related development knowledge.
- Strong expertise in database permissions and security management.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and respond effectively to technical issues in production environments.
- Good communication skills and experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
