Position Summary:  The Special Education Teacher will provide appropriate special educational services to students with social-emotional disorders in a supported learning environment. Skyline Academy is a day treatment/facility school program serving students ages 6 to 14-years old in grades 1st through 8th.The approach of the team is characterized by being strengths-based, family-centered, & culturally proficient and community responsive.

Compensation & Benefits:

The posted range represents the full hiring range. Offers will not exceed this range, the majority of candidates are placed near the midpoint based on experience and qualifications. 

Job Duties & Functions: 

  • Develop lesson plans and provide one-on-one and/or small group instruction in core content areas based upon the child’s IEP and curriculum requirements set by the Office of Facility Schools.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education Manager to evaluate and update students’ IEPs, BIPs, and Re-evaluations, as well as actively participate in all IEP meetings.
  • Administer academic and state assessments as required.
  • Assist the Special Education Manager and Clinicians to coordinate discharges and transfers with partnering school districts.
  • Maintain accurate student records, including IEP goals, attendance, report cards, progress reports, and incident reports.
  • In partnership with the milieu therapy staff, actively supervise and interact with students in the classroom and milieu according to the structured daily schedule.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians/caregivers regularly to ensure engagement and collaboration around students’ academic needs.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, milieu therapy staff, and Unit Manager to support behavior modification interventions and support students’ social, emotional and daily living skills in alignment with the clinical treatment plan.
  • Prove crisis intervention, employ approved crisis prevention and intervention methodologies, and implement effective de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements & Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in related field.
  • Minimum one year of experience as Special Education Teacher in an Affective Needs, Center-Based, or equivalent classroom/school.
  • Experience working within a facility school program or equivalent strongly preferred. 
  • Colorado Initial or Professional Teacher License with Special Education Generalist (5-21) endorsement.
  • Must be able to pass a Physical and TB test
  • Must be able to obtain QMAP, CPR and First Aid Certifications within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Must be able to complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training within 6 months of employment

  • Ability to work with severely mentally ill children.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse population.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills

 


Work Location: 3401 Eudora St. Denver, CO 80207

Shift/Hours: This is a Monday-Friday opportunity from 8am to 4:30pm

Permanent year-round position. Teachers are actively working August – May only but have the opportunity to work additional hours in June and July (pending Skyline’s needs).

 

Typical Physical Demans:

  • Walking (daily)
  • Standing
  • Playing with children in the gym or outdoors during recess/P.E. (1-2x/week)
  • Performing physical restraints (requires bearing student’s weight, sitting or kneeling on the ground, and laying on the ground) (frequency varies greatly)
