About NETGEAR

NETGEAR delivers world-class connectivity and cybersecurity through premium hardware, cloud services, and mobile experiences. We power connected homes and businesses with intelligent networking, subscription services, and secure digital experiences across Consumer and Enterprise divisions.

We are evolving our cloud ecosystem into a unified, scalable platform that accelerates innovation, protects revenue-critical systems, and enables engineering teams to operate at the highest levels of performance.

Role Overview

Location: Cork office - NETGEAR's European Headquarters

Working Model: Hybrid 3 days a week on site

Reporting to: VP Engineering

As Director of Cloud & Engineering Enablement, you will lead the transformation of NETGEAR’s cloud platform into a modern, automation-first, high-performance engineering ecosystem serving both Consumer and Enterprise divisions.

You will oversee:

- Cloud Platform Engineering

- Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)

- Cloud Architecture

- Cloud Shared Services (account management, Stripe billing, AWS IoT agents, cloud API infrastructure)

This is a culture-shaping leadership role. You will move the organization from manual processes and reactive operations toward self-service infrastructure, engineered reliability, AI-enabled development, and measurable engineering excellence.

The mandate is clear: remove friction, unblock engineers, increase velocity, protect revenue systems, and embed a durable culture of ownership and operational discipline.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Platform & Automation

  • Build and evolve a unified cloud platform serving Consumer and Enterprise divisions

  • Eliminate manual infrastructure and deployment processes

  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred) across environments

  • Enable engineers to self-serve infrastructure, deployments, and production monitoring

  • Standardize CI/CD pipelines and release practices

  • Reduce dependency bottlenecks and operational friction

The platform should accelerate engineering — not gate it.

Site Reliability Engineering & Operational Excellence

  • Establish and scale a strong SRE culture across engineering

  • Define SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets across shared services

  • Reduce production incidents and improve MTTR

  • Drive disciplined incident response and permanent root-cause elimination

  • Lead observability maturity (Datadog implementation experience a distinct advantage)

  • Reduce operational toil through automation

High-Performance Engineering & DORA Metrics

  • Establish DORA metrics as a core performance discipline

  • Improve deployment frequency and reduce lead time for changes

  • Lower change failure rate through automation and test rigor

  • Increase release confidence across cloud services

  • Provide transparent engineering performance reporting to leadership

You will treat engineering performance as measurable, improvable, and strategic.

AI-Enabled Engineering

  • Champion adoption of AI-powered development tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Cloud Code, emerging AI assistants)

  • Define responsible usage guardrails and best practices

  • Increase productivity through AI-assisted coding, debugging, and test generation

  • Measure and demonstrate the impact of AI adoption on velocity and quality

AI is a force multiplier — not an experiment.

Modern Test Automation & Quality

  • Drive strong automation across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing

  • Implement shift-left testing principles

  • Reduce manual regression processes

  • Embed production observability into quality validation

  • Raise engineering discipline around release confidence

Cloud Architecture

  • Define architectural standards and guardrails

  • Prevent service sprawl and architectural drift

  • Ensure scalable, cost-efficient cloud design

  • Align cloud architecture with long-term product and business strategy

  • Support both enterprise-grade and high-scale consumer use cases

Cloud Shared Services

Accountable for the engineering and reliability of:

  • Account management services

  • Subscription and Stripe billing systems

  • AWS IoT agents and device connectivity infrastructure

  • Core cloud API services powering mobile, web, and device ecosystems

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of engineering experience with significant cloud leadership responsibility

  • Proven track record transforming engineering teams into high-performing organizations

  • Experience operating and scaling cloud platforms (AWS highly advantageous)

  • Deep expertise in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)

  • Strong SRE and reliability engineering background

  • Demonstrated experience improving DORA metrics in production environments

  • Experience implementing and rolling out enterprise observability platforms (e.g., Datadog)

  • Experience leading AI tooling adoption across engineering teams

  • Experience operating revenue-critical systems at scale

  • Excellent stakeholder management across Product, Engineering, Security, and Finance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting both Consumer and Enterprise product ecosystems

  • Experience with AWS IoT infrastructure and large-scale device connectivity

  • Experience operating subscription and billing systems (e.g. Stripe)

  • Understanding of cloud financial governance and cost optimization

  • Experience building self-service internal developer platforms
