About the Role

Tupande Macadamia Factory Mechanical technician role is focused on maintaining, repairing, and improving mechanical systems and equipment to ensure smooth and reliable operations. The key objective of this role is to support One Acre Fund's mission by minimizing downtime, enhancing equipment performance, and ensuring safe, efficient service delivery to farmers. You will be a part of maintenance department and will report directly to the maintenance supervisor. This role is based in sagana and is onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment and machinery in the macadamia factory to ensure optimal operation and minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production teams to optimize equipment performance, improve efficiency, and reduce waste.
  • Install, test, and commission new mechanical equipment and machinery, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules and procedures to extend equipment lifespan and reduce maintenance costs.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience as a mechanical technician in a manufacturing, FMCG, or food production environment.
  • Good understanding of mechanical systems, including pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical work.
  • Experience in welding and fabrication, especially food-grade welding (stainless steel, polishing, etc.).
  • Experience in maintaining and repairing production equipment such as conveyors, motors, gears, and drive chains.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings, blueprints, and manuals.
  • Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and other mechanical equipment.
  • A valid certification in a mechanical trade or equivalent experience.
  • Strong focus on safety, able to follow OSH rules, do risk assessments, keep safety records, and promote safe work practices.
