Our Kenya program, founded in 2006, operates under the local brand Tupande. Close to 500 staff in our Kakamega headquarters support 1,747 field staff and serve more than 1 million farmers. In Nairobi, around 50 staff support global functions like procurement, recruitment, government relations, and communications

About the Role

The Quality Assurance Officer is the site authority for food safety and quality assurance. The role has independent authority to approve or reject raw materials, in-process products, and finished products based on defined specifications, food safety requirements, and customer standards.
Quality and food safety decisions made by this role shall take precedence over production, throughput, or commercial considerations where product safety, legality, or quality may be compromised.

Responsibilities

Raw Material Control

  • Inspect, sample, and approve/reject incoming macadamia nuts, ingredients, and packaging.
  • Ensure transport and delivery conditions meet FSMS requirements.
  • Manage non-conforming materials and monitor supplier performance.

Process & Product Quality

  • Ensure all processing stages follow approved procedures and food safety standards.
  • Monitor Critical Control Points (CCPs) and investigate deviations.
  • Maintain traceability, lot integrity, and mass balance.
  • Authorize product hold and positive release of finished goods.

Non-Conformance & Compliance

  • Manage product holds, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Oversee sanitation, pest control, hygiene, and environmental monitoring programs (PRPs).
  • Ensure compliance with BRCGS, FSSC 22000, HACCP, Kosher, Halal, and customer standards.
  • Support audits and maintain proper documentation.

Team Management

  • Supervise 10–20 Quality Assurance contractors.
  • Ensure staff are trained and competent in food safety and quality procedures.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • Minimum academic Qualification: Bachelor’s or  diploma in food science or food technology, on job training working in a robust macadamia processing factory
  • Knowledge of quality standards: Must have ISO 22000 experience, HACCP, FSSC 20000, BRC,
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing a team.
