Job Overview

Real opportunities. Real impact. Your career, redefined.

(NOTE: A human reviews every application at Oceans, so please apply for only one position and only once a year—if you're a better fit for another role, we’ll route your application accordingly and if we’re not quite ready for you, we’ll reach back out later).

At Oceans, we help the best and brightest of Sri Lanka to take advantage of opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t be available to them, while supporting entrepreneurs around the world. Our community (we call them Divers) don’t do surface work—they go deep to solve complex challenges and make a real impact. And in doing so, they support bold ideas and expand their skills, broaden their expertise, and grow their careers, all without having to leave family and friends.

We’re hiring a Senior Accountant to partner with a rapidly growing consumer products company tackling the challenges of scale, cash management, and financial oversight. With major retail distribution already in place and large-scale launches on the horizon, this role is central to ensuring accuracy, discipline, and strong controls within an inventory-heavy business.

In this role, you’ll own day-to-day accounting operations, manage cash flow forecasting, and support controllership while building forward-looking financial models. If you’re rigorous, detail-oriented, and capable of managing both daily transactions and strategic financial planning, this opportunity is designed for you.

Accountability

As a Senior Accountant, your success will be defined by your ability to deliver accurate financial reporting, manage cash flow with precision, and strengthen financial controls. You’ll combine technical accounting expertise with a proactive, problem-solving mindset to support growth, retail expansion, and fundraising efforts.

Here’s how you’ll make an impact:

Accounting & Controllership

  • Manage accounts payable (AP), invoice processing, and vendor payments.
  • Oversee month-end close and deliver accurate, timely reporting.
  • Maintain weekly cash positions and forecasts, supporting daily and weekly cash decisions.
  • Manage accounting tools (QuickBooks, Bill.com, Ramp, Brex) and ensure accurate records across systems.
  • Support transition from outsourced finance partner, ensuring smooth onboarding and continuity.
  • Oversee factoring line and ABL facility management, including reconciliations and reporting.

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

  • Enhance and maintain financial operating models, ensuring flexibility and accuracy.
  • Rebuild channel-level profitability models (retail, wholesale, DTC, Amazon).
  • Ensure accurate integration across P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow.
  • Run scenario analyses to forecast cash needs under varying growth and sales assumptions.
  • Partner with leadership to prepare investor-ready reports and models for fundraising.

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Streamline invoicing and payment processes to increase efficiency.
  • Establish stronger controls around invoicing, PO approvals, and system integrations.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and audit readiness as the company scales.

Colleagues

You’ll work directly with company leadership to manage cash flow and financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and control during a period of rapid retail expansion.

At Oceans, you’ll also receive guidance and support from our Operations Manager, who will help you succeed in the role and ensure that you’re continuously growing and developing in your career.

Skills & Qualifications

At Oceans, we believe in T-shaped individuals—those who bring deep expertise in one area, paired with broad curiosity and interests. As a Senior Accountant, your vertical focus will be controllership and cash management, while your horizontal strengths should include financial modeling, compliance, and process improvement.

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Experience: 5–7+ years in accounting/finance, ideally across both controllership and FP&A.
  • Technical Skills: Strong hands-on background in AP, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Cash Management: Proven ability to manage forecasting in inventory-heavy businesses.
  • Tools: Proficiency with QuickBooks, Bill.com, Ramp, Brex, and Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Detail Orientation: Rigorous attention to accuracy with zero tolerance for errors.
  • Communication: Confidence to own processes, address issues transparently, and partner with leadership.
  • Mindset: Startup-ready—adaptable, proactive, and comfortable solving problems with limited structure.

Bonus skills:

  • Experience in consumer products, retail, or inventory-based businesses.
  • Familiarity with factoring lines and ABL facilities.
  • CPA qualification or equivalent accounting certification.
  • Prior experience in high-growth or startup environments.

Diversity of experience is core to Oceans. You are expected to work inclusively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, ensuring that both personal and collective dignity are supported.

During the interview process, you’ll have the opportunity to showcase your skills in the following areas:

  • Accounting Accuracy: How do you ensure error-free month-end close and reporting?
  • Cash Management: How have you managed forecasting in inventory-heavy businesses?
  • FP&A: What’s your approach to building and refining financial models?
  • Process Improvement: How have you streamlined finance workflows or controls?
  • Leadership Communication: How do you work with executives to support financial decision-making?
