Job Overview

Based at Pact Packaging’s Temuka site and reporting to the Site Operations Manager, the Maintenance Manager will lead the maintenance function, driving a world‑class approach to preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance.

You’ll play a critical role in reducing unplanned downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting safe, high‑performing manufacturing operations. As a key member of the site leadership team, you’ll also contribute to leadership continuity and step into site leadership coverage when required.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Maximise equipment uptime and reliability through effective preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance across site assets.
  • Respond hands‑on to breakdowns, diagnosing faults, driving root‑cause solutions, and acting with urgency to minimise downtime.
  • Drive continuous improvement, delivering measurable gains in safety, quality, cost, and operational efficiency.
  • Coach and work alongside the team, developing technicians and operators in fault‑finding, asset care, and routine maintenance.
  • Oversee asset lifecycle and capital improvements, including planning, budgeting, and delivery of upgrades and site projects.
  • Provide strong operational and site leadership, supporting production performance, managing risk, and covering for the Site Operations Manager when required.
  • Champion health, safety, and environmental excellence, ensuring full WHSE compliance and promoting a proactive, zero‑harm culture.

Your skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • A qualification in Engineering, with broad technical experience and extensive exposure at a senior level.
  • Proven technical maintenance experience within FMCG or complex manufacturing operations.
  • Experience leading a maintenance or engineering team, with strong people leadership, engagement, and influencing skills.
  • Practical, hands‑on knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, and safe slinging and lifting practices.
  • Experience applying Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to improve safety, quality, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Desirable: Dual‑trade electrical qualification and/or Advanced Fitting, Turning and Machining trade certificate.
