People in Need was established in 1992 by a group of Czech war correspondents, journalists and activists and has grown to become one of the largest non-profit organization in Central and Eastern Europe. 

Throughout our 30 years of existence, People in Need continues to engage in humanitarian aid, development cooperation, education and social inclusion. 

We have been operating in Ethiopia since 2003, working in five regions; Oromia, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Amhara and Tigray in different multi sectoral projects in the areas of development and emergency response.

PIN currently invites internal qualified applicants for the position of Communication Assistant for Communication Department.

Length of Contract: For Three Month with possibility of extension

Place of Work: - Based in Addis Ababa with frequent field travel to Oromia Regine and PIN’s project sites in different regions as required.

Job Overview

The Communication Assistant supports the implementation of the organization’s communication and visibility objectives. The role involves assisting in content creation, media documentation, and visibility activities, while ensuring compliance with donor and organizational communication standards. The Communication Assistant plays a key role in capturing and editing high-quality photo and video materials that showcase the impact of programmes and activities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Communication Support

  • Assist in implementing the Country Programme Communication Strategy and Action Plan.
  • Support the preparation and formatting of printed and digital materials (leaflets, flyers, newsletters, posters).
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for public events, trainings, workshops, and campaigns.
  • Help maintain communication files, photo archives, and project documentation.
  • Regularly update the communication activity task tracker on SharePoint.

2. Content Development (Photography & Videography)

  • Capture high-quality photos and videos during field visits to document project activities and achievements. Ensure ethical standards of the organization.
  • Edit and organize visual content, ensuring consistency with branding and storytelling guidelines.
  • Support the preparation of short videos, photo stories, and multimedia products for internal and external use.
  • Upload, tag, and organize photos and videos in photo archive following the agreed structure.

3. Visibility

  • Support the implementation of donor visibility requirements, ensuring correct use of logos and branding.
  • Assist in producing and distributing both offline and online content

4. Capacity Building Support

  • Assist in organizing internal training on communication and visibility (preparing training materials, providing technical support on photography and videography).
  • Guide colleagues on basic photography and branding rules when documenting field activities.

5. General Duties and Obligations

  • Perform other assignments corresponding to the actual needs of the mission, programme unit, or project as requested by the line manager.
  • Substitute for other related tasks during colleagues’ absence as assigned by the line manager.
  • Understand and adhere to PIN’s Code of Conduct, policy guidelines, and manuals.
  • Strictly comply with all donor and PIN guidelines and policies, with particular attention to safeguarding and protection.
  • Maintain confidentiality and refrain from providing any information concerning PIN activities to outsiders, including former PIN employees.
  • Recognize that the position requires external representation and ensure behavior and communication reflect PIN’s values and principles at all times, both during and outside working hours.
  • Take responsibility for entrusted materials, assets, or cash, and cover damages or losses caused by negligence or carelessness, in line with the signed non-obligation of assets agreement. 

General obligations and responsibilities

  • The Employee is obligated not to purvey any information concerning any of PIN activities to outsiders (including former PIN employees, who may no more be informed about current process in PIN).
  • PIN is a relief and development organization whose aim is to help and assist needy people. The Employee’s position within the institution requires contacts with outside; he or she therefore conveys a certain image of the PIN. PIN expects its Employees to behave in appropriate manners at all times and in all places. All members of staff should ensure their attitudes correspond to PIN principles, both during and after working hours.
  • The Employee takes over the responsibility for all entrusted material or cash. The Employee is obligated to cover all damages or losses caused by his carelessness. The Agreement of Liability of Assets has been signed separately.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Media, Public Relations, or Marketing related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in communications, media, or related areas.
  • Strong photography and videography skills, including content capture and basic editing.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); knowledge of Canva
  • Good writing and editing skills in Amharic, English and local language(s). Fluency in Oromifa language is mandatory.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel frequently to the remote communities.
