Manage the Finance department including staff supervision, budget preparation, monitoring financial performance, analyzing general ledger accounts, administering the 401k plan, and performing business analytics in coordination with the VP of Finance. The Controller will work closely with other departments to provide financial expertise and is involved in organization-wide and department-driven initiatives with high visibility across the organization.  The incumbent will oversee external audits and all process improvements that result from audit findings or recommendations. The primary purpose of the Controller is to ensure the production of timely and accurate financial reports.

Manage the Finance department including staff supervision, budget preparation, monitoring financial performance, analyzing general ledger accounts, administering the 401k plan, and performing business analytics in coordination with the VP of Finance. The Controller will work closely with other departments to provide financial expertise and is involved in organization-wide and department-driven initiatives with high visibility across the organization.  The incumbent will oversee external audits and all process improvements that result from audit findings or recommendations. The primary purpose of the Controller is to ensure the production of timely and accurate financial reports. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Supervises and provides guidance to Finance team members to ensure work is completed accurately and timely. Reviews and approves journal entries prepared by Finance team members. 

    1. Assists VP of Finance with PPGP’s annual budgeting process. Monitors execution of the budget to ensure that revenues and expenses are properly allocated among companies, departments, health centers and service lines. Complies, reviews and delivers monthly budget to actual performance reports. Conducts quarterly meetings with people who have budget responsibility to review significant variances. 

    1. Monitors “cash on hand” and ensures transfers are made between bank accounts as needed. 

    1. Develops budgets and/or prepares all necessary financial documents for grants being submitted to funders. 

    1. Produces monthly financial statements and related financial analysis. Prepares reports and projections based on the analysis. 

    1. Working with the Grant Manager in the Development Department, tracks and monitors grants in compliance with funding restrictions and ensures related expenses are tracked appropriately. Conducts regular meetings with people who have grant management responsibility to review spend down on grants. 

    1. Reviews general ledger coding of revenue and expenses monthly and posts corrections as necessary. Performs monthly analysis of balance sheet accounts and works with VP of Finance to resolve any identified issues. 

    1. Provides creative alternatives and recommendations to reduce costs and improve PPGP’s financial performance.  

    1. Assists VP of Finance and applicable consultants with annual financial and single audits including preparation of required schedules such as 990s. 

    1. Assists VP of Finance with preparing materials for distribution to the Operations, Finance and Audit Committee and to the full Board of Directors prior to meetings. 

    1. Assists VP of Finance in managing outsourced billings and the collection function. Ensures full scope of revenue processes are designed to maximize revenue. Performs monthly reconciliations between billing and accounting systems. Prepares monthly estimates of bad debt and contractual allowances. Manages patient refunds process. 

    1. Serves as one of the 401k plan administrators. Monitors 401k plan activity for compliance with Federal guidelines. Assists with 401k audit. 

     

QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in business-related field required; master’s degree preferred 

    • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and management experience preferably in a nonprofit and/or healthcare setting 

    • CPA license preferred
