Operations & Facilities Assistant

Part Time/Contract 22 - 25 USD per-hour-wage

Job Overview

This job has two parts.

The first half is physical product.  You'll pack and ship outbound samples, receive returned units, and inspect and sort them against a documented checklist.

The second half is the space itself. A hardware company generates a lot of cardboard, a lot of packaging, and a lot of things that end up on the wrong shelf. You'll keep the office and work areas clean, keep storage and inventory organized, and handle the general upkeep that keeps a working space from slowly falling apart.

This is not a technical job, and you don't need any background in construction or hardware. What it needs is someone genuinely careful and willing to do unglamorous work well. When a returned tool gets logged as working and it isn't, a customer finds out the hard way.

When the staging area is a mess, shipments go out wrong. The work itself is straightforward and well documented. Doing it right every single time is the job.

To apply, send a short note about yourself and any relevant experience to [email protected] and why you would be a great fit for the role

What You Will Do

    Shipping samples and orders

  • Pick, pack, and label outbound sample shipments
  • Generate shipping labels and record tracking information
  • Keep packing materials and shipping supplies stocked
  • Keeping the space clean and running

  • General cleaning of the office and work areas: floors, surfaces, desks, common areas, kitchen and break area
  • Trash and recycling, including breaking down and disposing of the steady flow of shipping cardboard
  • Keeping workbenches, staging areas, and shared spaces clear and usable
  • Restocking supplies (office, kitchen, cleaning, and packing materials) and flagging when we're running low
  • Light upkeep: replacing bulbs, assembling shelving, receiving deliveries, and flagging anything that needs a real repair
  • Organizing inventory and storage

  • Keeping shelving, bins, and storage areas labeled and in order
  • Putting product and materials where they belong so nothing goes missing
  • Periodic tidying and reorganization of storage as the space changes
  • Processing returns

  • Receive returned units and log them into our system
  • Inspect and categorize each unit against a written checklist: cosmetic condition, accessory completeness, basic function check
  • Sort units into the correct bins (restock, refurbish, scrap) and flag anything that doesn't fit the checklist
  • Keep the returns area orderly so nothing sits unidentified
  • Projects

  • Preparing and shipping tool donations to trade schools and CTE programs
  • Space reorganizations, inventory counts, and similar one-off efforts as they come up

What we're looking for

  • Willing to do the physical, unglamorous parts. A meaningful share of this role is cleaning and hauling boxes. We're looking for someone who takes pride in a space that's actually in order.
  • Detail-oriented in a way you could give an example of. Running the same 12-step checklist the same way on the 200th unit as on the first.
  • Organized. You track what's done and what isn't without someone asking.
  • Reliable. We're small. When you're out, the work waits.
  • Comfortable with basic computer work. Entering data into a web form, printing labels, sending an email.
  • Able to work on your own. Most days you'll have a queue and work through it without much supervision.
  • No specific experience is required. Prior work in shipping, receiving, a retail stockroom, a warehouse, facilities, custodial work, or general office support will help you get up to speed faster, but we'll train you on everything specific to our products and process.

Regular lifting and carrying of boxes up to 25 pounds. Standing, bending, reaching, and moving around the space for most of the shift. Use of standard cleaning equipment and supplies.

Hours and logistics

  • 15–20 hours a week, roughly 3–4 hours a day, Monday through Friday
  • You pick the window. Mornings, midday, early afternoon — tell us what works and we'll build around it. We'd like it consistent week to week so we both know what to expect.
  • On-site in Boston. This work is all physical, so none of it can be done remotely.
  • No nights, no weekends.
Even if you don’t check every box mentioned above, we still strongly encourage you to apply!  At REEKON Tools, diversity is a cornerstone of the business we are building.  We know that diverse perspectives foster the innovation we need to be successful and are committed to building our team that encompasses a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences, and skills!
