Job Overview

Role Purpose

The Security Team Leader (Nights) is responsible for overseeing security operations, ensuring compliance with protocols, and managing the security team to maintain a safe and secure environment. This role is a key part of the Visitor Services and Security management team, supervising Controllers and Security Officers to uphold high standards of safety, integrity, and visitor service across exhibitions, buildings, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate security personnel, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and legal requirements (Data Protection Act, Health & Safety at Work Act).
  • Manage incidents, emergency responses, and alarm activations effectively.
  • Provide operational support and act as the primary point of contact during night shifts.
  • Conduct patrols, monitor CCTV systems, and verify security of access points.
  • Respond promptly to incidents and produce accurate reports.
  • Oversee daily post rotations, welfare checks, and performance monitoring.
  • Train, mentor, and conduct one-to-one meetings with team members.
  • Prepare crib sheets, training materials, and maintain up-to-date documentation.
  • Assist with reception duties such as creating new starter badges during peak periods.
  • Troubleshoot security systems and verify event badges.
  • Perform perimeter checks and test protection systems.
  • Train staff on radios and intruder alarms for out-of-hours access.
  • Ensure visitor management protocols are followed.
  • Conduct interviews for lateness and manage related administration.
  • Participate in staff training sessions and ensure attendance at required modules.

  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by Duty Managers or Head of Operations.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Valid SIA licence or equivalent certification.
  • Strong knowledge of security protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm and act decisively under pressure.
  • Proficiency in security systems and visitor management software.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain high alertness.
  • Experience in issue and conflict resolution.
  • Capability to manage reception duties alongside security responsibilities

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years in a security supervisory role.
  • Proven track record in managing security teams and handling emergencies.
  • Familiarity with advanced surveillance technologies.
