Tooling Engineer
Contract Mid-Senior LevelJob Overview
Objectives of the function:
- To design, develop, validate, and improve production tooling, jigs, and fixtures through robust engineering methods, ensuring manufacturing performance, ergonomics, safety, and cost efficiency.
- To reverse-engineer existing tools where documentation is missing or incomplete, and generate complete 3D/2D datasets for manufacturing.
Mission & Task : - Design and develop tooling, jigs, fixtures, gauges, lifting devices, and assembly aids.
- Conduct criticality assessment for jigs & fixtures.
- Perform reverse engineering of existing tooling: measurements, 3D scanning interpretation, redesign, and documentation.
- Produce high-quality 3D models and 2D drawings using CATIA V5/V6 and/or SolidWorks.
- Conduct tolerance analyses, GD&T application, and functional studies.
- Support tooling fabrication, commissioning, and shop-floor validation.
- Perform tooling functional trials and capability checks.
- Troubleshoot tooling issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Manage tooling projects (planning, cost, supplier interface).
- Ensure compliance with safety and ergonomic requirements.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects (Lean, Kaizen, SMED).
- Prepare technical documentation, BOMs, routing sheets, and validation reports.
- Strong mechanical design capability
- High proficiency in CATIA and/or SolidWorks
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, welding)
- Reverse engineering know-how (measurement, scan data interpretation)
- Understanding of GD&T, ISO standards, and technical drawing rules
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Shop-floor practicality and hands-on approach
- Ability to manage multiple tooling projects simultaneously
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
