Test Lab Technician

Job Overview

Summary: Set up static, motion, vibration, flow, and environmental tests. Make instrumentation for electrical and mechanical measurements of test conditions. Make neat and complete records of test results. Note and evaluate any unusual events occurring during progress of test for additional reporting.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Makes any mechanical set-up and jigs for same with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Assists supervisors and engineers to achieve proper test methods and set-up.
  • Sets up and performs vibration test, shock tests, flow tests (both liquid and gaseous), helium leak detection, cycle testing (hydraulic and pneumatic), and environmental testing.
  • Works with all power equipment such as lathe, band saws, grinders, drill presses, shock testers, cycling equipment, leak detector, vibrators and other necessary power equipment to conduct such tests.
  • Works with recording instruments.
  • Works with micrometers, venire calipers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Reads schematic drawings and Engineering blueprints.
  • Uses shop mathematics and trigonometry.
  • Performs all functions with safety and neatness.
  • Make legible substantiating data on all tests performed.
  • Caps, plug and clamp parts for pressure tests. Makes and maintain test rigs for motion and fatigue cycling.  Tends furnaces and other heating apparatus for temperature testing.
  • Runs tensile test. Finds yield point and elongation of metals.
  • Performs rework, repair and other associated operations in connection with the work described.
  • Understands helium leak detector, can service, change filaments and maintain machine.
  • Repairs electrical equipment used for measurement and testing.
  • Mounts, polishes, etches, and photographs samples for microscopic examination.
  • Communicates progress and problems associated with operation sin the development of an assigned project to their supervisor.
  • Be qualified to weld any materials in Groups I, II, III, IV & VI for test setups of high-pressure, high temperature applications.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedures.
  • Other duties with the work as assigned.
