Objectives and Purpose of the Job:
Responsible for receiving and inspecting incoming grain, ensuring proper storage and handling. Operates equipment to transfer grain safely, maintains records, and follows safety protocols. Keeps storage areas organized and machinery in good working condition.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the storage of all grains are in accordance with the company’s policies.
- Examine and inspect all storage areas for compromise and report to the supervisor.
- Assist with daily / monthly / annual stock counting of Silos and bins and raw materials as per company standards.
- Contribute and maintain conditions that will ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
- Demonstrate commitment to safety, health, and environment by following the policies and procedures of JGC.
- Demonstrate commitment to maintain & continuously improve JGC’S Food Safety & Quality Management System.
- Maintain 5’s standards at the Grain Receival Area and JGC Port Silos and in all areas where tasks are assigned.
- Inspect and collect samples of all incoming grain before acceptance.
- Immediately report any damaged or faulty grain to the supervisor.
- Store grains in designated locations following given instructions by the supervisor.
- Accurately record received grain details, including quantity, in the logbook.
- Maintain cleanliness of bins, silos, grain pit, cleaning house and surrounding areas as per company GMP standards.
- Rotate grains in bins and silos as directed by the supervisor to prevent infestations.
- Conduct fumigation of grains as needed, following company procedures.
- Report any compromised storage areas or malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor.
- Ensure proper housekeeping, including weekly machine washing, and participate in Food Safety and Security program when required.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor or manager based on departmental needs.
- Work 12-hour shifts during vessel operations, including day or night shifts, until operations are completed.
- Employees must remain on duty until their replacement has successfully taken over.
- Ensure that all relevant information is properly communicated to the next person during shift change before leaving.
- During drawback and wheat transfer exercises, employees are required to remain on duty until the transfer is fully completed. This may extend their working hours by an additional hours beyond their regular shift.
- Respond to or return calls from the supervisor or JGC Management staff promptly.
Requirements
Academic/Technical/Management: Experience and Qualifications:
● Secondary level education.
● Experience working in shift-based or extended-hour operations.
● Experience operating equipment such as conveyors or storage silos.
● Previous experience in grain handling, warehouse operations, or a similar field is an asset.
Abilities; Skills; Experience; Aptitude and Judgement:
● Physically capable of handling grain storage tasks, including lifting and operating machinery.
● Ability to work long shifts, including day or night, until operations are completed.
● Strong attention to detail when inspecting grain quality.
● Ability to follow safety and operational protocols consistently.
● Adaptability to work in various environmental conditions, such as dust and heat.
● Ability to work efficiently within tight schedules, especially during vessel operations.
● Ability to work independently and take initiative while following operational guidelines.
Other Personal or General Characteristics:
● Must be reliable and able to report to work on time, especially for shift-based operations.
● Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
● Ability to work well with colleagues and supervisors to ensure smooth operations.
● Keen eye for spotting issues with grain quality, equipment, or safety hazards.
● Prioritizes workplace safety and follows all company policies and procedures.
● Capable of performing tasks that require standing, lifting, and working in different environmental conditions.
