Business Manager – Industries & Environment (I&E)

Job Overview

The Business Manager – Industries & Environment (I&E) is responsable for develop and  manage the Industries & Environment business operations in Mozambique, deliver sustainable revenue growth, profitability, and operational excellence across Energy, Mining, and other industrial sectors.

Support and collaborate with sales teams to identify, pursue, and convert opportunities into contracts, ensure effective execution and delivery of contracts, meeting client expectations and SGS standards. Develop local market presence, strengthening SGS positioning with key clients and stakeholders.

Responsabilities

Business Management & P&L Ownership

  • Full responsibility for financial performance (revenue, margin, cost control, EBITDA).
  • Develop and implement annual business plans and budgets.
  • Monitor financial performance and implement corrective actions where needed.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise cost base and improve margins.

Operations & Contract Delivery

  • Oversee delivery of all inspection, Supervision, EHS, QA/QC, and I&E services.
  • Ensure contracts are delivered on time, within budget, and to SGS quality standards.
  • Implement and maintain operational processes, procedures, and KPIs.
  • Ensure effective resource planning (personnel, subcontractors, equipment).
  • Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

Sales Support & Business Development

  • Work closely with local and global sales teams to:
    • Identify new opportunities and target clients,
    • Support tender preparation and commercial proposals,
    • Define technical and operational solutions.
  • Personally contribute to business development activities.
  • Expand SGS footprint across Energy, Mining, Infrastructure and Industrial sectors.
  • Increase share-of-wallet within existing accounts.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Develop strong relationships with key clients, regulators, and partners in Mozambique.
  • Act as primary escalation point for major contracts and client issues.
  • Ensure high levels of client satisfaction and retention.
  • Promote SGS brand, capability and integrity.

Contract & Commercial Governance

  • Ensure all contracts are (properly reviewed, mobilised, and executed in accordance with SGS Group rules, financially controlled and commercially optimised).
  • Manage contractual risks and ensure compliance with legal and SGS standards.
  • Support negotiation and structuring of commercial agreements.

People Management & Leadership

  • Lead and develop local operational teams and managers.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing, competency, and training levels.
  • Foster a high-performance, safety-focused culture.
  • Promote collaboration across affiliates and global teams.

  • Building strong local supplier and workforce capability.
  • Ensuring consistent service quality across multiple industrial sectors.
  • Managing cost pressures while maintaining profitability.
