Position Title: SCADA Engineer III – Critical Infrastructure
Position Location: Remote – United States; limited project-based travel required
(On-site presence primarily for design reviews, FAT, IST, commissioning strategy, or critical technical escalations)

JOB SUMMARY
The Senior SCADA Engineer – Level III is a high-level individual contributor responsible for designing, developing, and supporting SCADA systems across mission-critical infrastructure projects.
This role focuses on system design, development, integration, and execution, operating under established standards and architecture while contributing technical expertise across multiple projects. Senior SCADA Engineers are expected to work independently on complex scopes while escalating higher-risk architectural decisions as needed.
While predominantly remote, this role includes on-site engagement during critical milestones such as factory acceptance testing (FAT), integrated systems testing (IST), commissioning, and high-risk troubleshooting events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
SCADA System Design & Development (40%)
- Design and develop SCADA systems in accordance with project requirements and STC standards.
- Translate design intent, sequences of operation, and operational requirements into maintainable SCADA configurations, scripts, and logic.
- Develop SCADA code, templates, and reusable components as assigned.
- Configure alarms, graphics, and data models consistent with established architecture.
- Review and refine SCADA implementations for performance, reliability, and consistency.
Project and Cross-Discipline Coordination (25%)
- Coordinate SCADA engineering efforts with Project Managers, Engineers, Field Leadership, and commissioning teams.
- Participate in design reviews, coordination meetings, and commissioning planning.
- Support integration with third-party systems, packaged equipment, and external vendors.
- Identify technical risks within assigned scope and propose mitigation strategies.
Quality, Testing, & Commissioning Support (20%)
- Support FAT, IST, and commissioning activities as required.
- Perform peer reviews of SCADA configurations and development work within assigned scope.
- Assist with troubleshooting during commissioning and live system cutovers.
- Ensure implementations align with standards, safety requirements, and design intent.
Mentorship & Technical Growth (15%)
- Provide guidance and technical support to junior engineers as assigned.
- Contribute to internal documentation, standards, and best practices.
- Participate in knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget
Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- 4–6 years of experience engineering or developing SCADA systems in mission-critical, industrial, utility, or infrastructure environments
- Demonstrated experience designing and developing SCADA systems (not solely configuring HMIs)
- Strong understanding of:
- SCADA architecture and data modeling
- Alarm management and HMI/graphics philosophy
- System integration and communications
- Commissioning workflows, IST, and live cutovers
- Ability to independently execute complex SCADA scopes with limited oversight
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable supporting multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment

- Ability to move through offices, job sites, control rooms, and equipment spaces as needed

TRAVEL / RELOCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to rent vehicles
- Limited (Up to 50%), targeted travel for FAT, IST, commissioning strategy, or critical issue resolution
- Willingness to support extended hours during major commissioning or cutover events as needed
- Domestic travel required as project needs dictate; valid REAL ID or passport required
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Controls, Automation, Computer, Mechanical) or a related technical discipline preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and demonstrated, hands-on SCADA or controls engineering experience will be considered
- Relevant industry certifications or advanced technical training are a plus but not required
- Preferred (Not Required):
- Experience with major SCADA platforms (Ignition, AVEVA/Wonderware, WinCC, FactoryTalk, or equivalent)
- Experience supporting mission-critical infrastructure environments
