Treasury Accountant (12 Month Fixed Term Contract)
Full-time Mid-Senior LevelJob Overview
At Smiths Detection, we are building a standalone Treasury function that will support our global business through robust financial control, accurate reporting, and modern treasury operations. As part of this exciting transformation, we are looking for a Treasury Accountant to join us on a 12-month fixed term contract based at our new offices in Chancery Lane, London. This is a hybrid role, where you would be expected onsite a minimum of 3 days a week.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in establishing and enhancing treasury accounting processes within a newly created team. You'll work closely with Treasury, Group Finance, Tax, and local finance teams while helping to implement new systems, improve controls, and automate processes that will support the future growth of the organisation.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Treasury, you will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely treasury accounting, supporting month-end close activities, derivative valuations, hedge accounting, intercompany netting, and treasury-related reporting.
This role goes beyond traditional accounting. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a changing environment, can operate effectively with ambiguity, and is motivated by the opportunity to improve processes and help build a best-in-class Treasury function.
What you will be doing:
Treasury Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare treasury journals, funding transactions, interest accruals, settlements, and other treasury-related accounting entries.
- Perform month-end valuation calculations for FX transactions and reconcile treasury positions to the general ledger.
- Maintain treasury balance sheet reconciliations and support reporting requirements.
- Coordinate monthly intercompany netting calculations, validations, approvals, and settlements.
- Support Group Reporting and local Finance teams with intercompany reconciliations.
Hedge Accounting & Valuations
- Prepare and maintain IFRS 9 hedge accounting entries and supporting documentation.
- Support derivative and interest rate swap valuations, ensuring alignment between accounting records and counterparty valuations.
- Assist with audit requests and periodic reporting requirements.
Systems & Transformation
- Support the implementation and development of our Treasury Management System (TMS), including accounting module testing and configuration.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual treasury accounting activities.
- Document processes, controls, and procedures to support a scalable operating model.
Controls & Continuous Improvement
- Operate key treasury accounting controls and reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve accounting and settlement exceptions.
- Partner with Treasury, Finance, Tax, and international stakeholders to drive improvements in process efficiency, reporting accuracy, and financial control.
About You
You'll be a qualified accountant who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
What Will Make You Stand Out?
- Takes ownership and accountability for their work.
- Can demonstrate tangible achievements and impact, not just participation.
- Is intellectually curious and quick to learn.
- Thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments.
- Balances strong attention to detail with a pragmatic, commercial mindset.
- Is confident contributing ideas and helping shape new processes.
Why Join Smiths Detection?
This is an opportunity to join at the beginning of an important transformation journey. You'll help shape a newly established Treasury function, influence how processes are designed, and gain exposure to senior stakeholders across Finance and Treasury.
If you're a qualified accountant with treasury accounting expertise and are looking for a role where you can make a real impact while developing your career in a global organisation, we'd love to hear from you.
