Job Overview

As Associate Director A&R you will be responsible for music and artist-scouting activities across different genres. You will identify, agree, and sign-ff new artists while building an extension network across the music industry to secure the best possible deals.

You will play a pivotal role in supporting, initiating, and implementing A&R strategy that incorporates discovering new artists who have the potential to be commercially successful, finding the right songs and projects for new and current priority artists and overseeing the ongoing development and recording of all assigned artists.

 

What you'll do:

  • Identify developing, established, signing artists for Hong Kong.
  • Identify/Scouting potential new talent, concepts and projects using every resource available.
  • Production Management: Scheduling and monitoring of production process and artist engagements
  • Responsible A&R daily management including tracking and coordinating the progress and timeline of production projects with the team, integrates the relevant admin works, regularly updates the Release Schedule of Sony Music label, deliver various reports, updates, and other relevant presentation materials on behalf of the team.
  • Maintaining A&R workflow – track versions, files, archives, and other assets for the team, help the team to cooperate and communicate between artists, producers, teams, suppliers, etc.
  • Budget tracking and management of procurement, Purchase Order, and invoicing processes
  • Update weekly tracker of new signing, production, and release schedules.
  • Liaising, “brainstorming” and meeting with internal teams to discuss A&R’s strategy.
  • Work with Marketing and Artist Management teams to oversee the recording process of Sony Music’s artists.
  • Demonstrate a good ear for music that will help the artist/s success and be able to identify the singles that will be hits and provide creative feedback.
  • Attend shows and showcases of both signed and unsigned artists on a regular basis.
  • Manage the administrative and deal making process for prospective clients.
  • Work closely with Finance and BLA to formulate deal prospects.
  • Set out company priorities and release timelines.
  • Look for creative opportunities to gain exposure for our artists and labels.
  • Provide A&R direction and support on assigned projects.
  • Work closely with other label departments/employees including Copyright, Royalty, Artist Management, Marketing & Promotion, Data
  • Analytics, Commercial, etc.
  • Provide some Artist Management support.
  • Special projects (e.g., TFT, SMP interpolation, writing camps, Virtual Artists, Soundtracks etc)

 

Who you are:

  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in the music industry.
  • With expertise in songwriting and production AND/OR with strong relationships with songwriters and producer resources are preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in the music industry, with strong understanding of recording, production, creative, legal, copyright, music publishing, and general knowledge of digital marketing, social media, content, streaming landscape, and key industry players.
  • Open-minded; avid music fan across all genres. Strong desire to make a difference and contribute to successful outcomes.
  • A proactive self-starter. A collaborative team player, able to form good relationships with internal and external stakeholders. · Able to handle confidential matters appropriately and with discretion. Good time management and organizational skills · Ability to travel and attend showcases as required. · Great verbal and written communications skills combined with interpersonal skills working across multiple cultures. · Passion for music, digital media and innovation is a (big) plus. · Fluent in both English and Mandarin
