Studio Manager

Job Overview

In this role you will be responsible for the smooth and profitable operation of SMEI recording studio. Include coordinating with artists, producers, managers, and labels to schedule recording sessions; hiring and supervising recording engineers, assistants, and other technical staff; helping to select the studio's equipment; and—critically—marketing the studio to potential new clients to gain company revenue.

 

What you'll do:

Studio Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day studio activities and ensure operations run smoothly.
  • Manage studio calendars, bookings, and workflow to avoid schedule conflicts. 
  • Ensure all equipment, tools, and facilities are functioning properly and well-maintained.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (A&R, production, marketing, etc.) to support project needs.

Team & Personnel Management (External Vendor)

  • Supervise studio staff, technicians, and support teams.
  • Assign tasks and monitoring to ensure high standards.

Equipment & Facilities Management

  • Monitor studio equipment usage and schedule regular maintenance.
  • Identify needs for repair, replacement, or upgrades and propose improvements.
  • Maintain inventory of studio supplies and equipment.

Budgeting & Administration

  • Manage studio operational budgets, including equipment costs and maintenance.
  • Track expenses and propose cost-efficiency initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and health & safety standards.

Client & Project Coordination (if applicable)

  • Liaise with external partners, clients, talents, or vendors.
  • Ensure client sessions or production timelines are properly supported.
  • Handle inquiries, scheduling, and studio usage communication.

Quality Control

  • Ensure output quality meets company standards.
  • Manage and implement studio workflows, best practices, and SOPs.

 

Who you are:

  • Education Qualification/Background: Bachelor’s degree | having a Music/Media degree not a must, but good to have.
  • Relevant Work Experience (years): 5+ years.
  • Preferred Industry (or specific exposure): Music, Entertainment, Recording studio.
  • Receptive and versatile to fast-changing business models.
  • Having proven leadership experiences and able to work as single contributor.
  • Having good networking.
  • Having good time management.
  • Flexibility with working hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Collaborative and always ready to experiment with fresh ideas.
