What You'll Be Doing:

  • Responsible for the improvement and maintenance of company metering, flow technology and data collection across leakage and water balance gap reporting. 
  • Proactively minimise data failures, towards >90% regulatory DMA operability, and gather intelligence on supply system efficiency and water consumption components. 
  • Assist with activities, operational and reporting, towards successful company regulatory leakage performance.
  • Install and maintain metering and telemetry across all reporting DMAs; including sub-metering, Waste Water Treatment Works and commercial customers, to ensure the accuracy of essential network information to improve and enhance operational leakage performance.
  • Install and maintain Service Reservoir metering and telemetry to ensure losses are monitored and minimised.
  • Install and maintain meters and telemetry across other key reporting components for company leakage and water balance gap performance (for example commercial customers and company waste water treatment works).
  • Manage own schedule of work and co-ordinate where necessary with other technicians to assist or gain assistance with complex metering jobs.
  • Undertake training where required, developing specialist skills in flow metering and telemetry and providing expertise in maintaining regional flow data.
  • Liaise with external contractors to ensure remedial work and repairs are completed to required timescales and budget.
  • Maintain close working relationships with the Leakage Reporting team and Leakage Delivery teams to support achievement of current and future Leakage reduction targets.
  • With the Water Supply Metering Team Leader, examine repeat asset failures to generate work programmes to drive reliability and availability of flow data.
  • Champion the importance of accurate metering and data collection in all DWS activities.
  • Participate in the appropriate network standby rota.
  • To undertake any other reasonable tasks required to support the DWS and company vision.
  • Participate in a clear Progression Scheme.

What we’re looking for...

  • Essential:
  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent in Maths, English and a Sciences subject
  • National Water Hygiene Certificate
  • NRSWA – Unit2
  • Relevant experience of working within leakage
  • Experience of the use of modern leakage control techniques and equipment
  • Relevant experience in Water Supply Networks
  • Proven ability to work within a team environment but also on your own.
  • Proven ability to communicate and liaise effectively with internal and external customers
  • Good customer facing skills and ability to deal effectively with customers
  • Reliable, punctual, thorough and committed to achieving the requirements of the role
  • Ability to show resilience in a fast changing operational environment and flexibility to adapt to varied tasks at very short notice
  • Ability to adjust to changes within the DWS team
  • Adaptable and able to take on new skills which is essential in a continuous improvement environment
  • Engagement with the Business to achieve targets.
  • Full UK Drivers License
  • A flexible approach to working hours which includes participation in a standby rotation.
  • Desirable:
  • NVQ Leakage Detection Level 2 / City and Guilds or ONC in relevant subject
  • Confined Space’ awareness
  • Technical understanding of hydraulic distribution systems or proven ability
