Program Requirements - Fall 2026 Cohort:
- Must be a Graduate of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master's - level practice program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN, former NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), with a degree conferral between June 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026.
- Must hold current unencumbered Registered Nurse licensure, issued by the State of California, verified by August 11, 2026. Note: Interim permits are not accepted
- Must hold current Basic Life Support Certification, issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), verified by August 11, 2026.
- May not have any paid work experience as a Registered Nurse (RN), at program start.
- Must have a 3.5 or above cumulative grade point average (G.P.A.) on a 4.0 grading scale Note: G.P.A. rounded to the nearest tenth.
- Cumulative grade point average must be 3.5 or above at time of application and maintained at time of degree conferral if selected.
- Cumulative grade point average on nursing program transcript, as calculated by college/university, which may include nursing, pre-requisite, transfer, and general education coursework.
- Must be willing to commit to a one (1) year Residency Program.

- One (1) signed letter of recommendation must be written by a Clinical Nurse Preceptor, who can speak about one's performance in the clinical setting and potential for success as a nurse.
Note:
- If offered placement with the RN Residency program, shift assignment is determined by the hiring department. Finalists will be notified of shift assignment at time of offer extension and will consent to offer in writing.
- Bass and NICU hiring departments = 0.9FTE, 12-hour schedule (full-time)
- Operating Room hiring department = 1.0FTE, 10-hour schedule (full-time)
JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Nurse I is a newly licensed new-to-practice RN or RN with less than 12 months as a Registered Nurse that demonstrates basic safe practice within the organizational professional practice model. The Clinical Nurse I seeks guidance to integrate concepts, knowledge, skills and attitudes to meet standards for competent professional nursing practice as specified in the Clinical Nurse I job description addendum and exhibits core values which reflect its mission.
The Clinical Nurse I is accountable for the provision of direct care to patients who may range in age from infancy to adult and demonstrates within the competency domains of Evidence Based Practice and Research, Safety, Professionalism, Person and Family Centered Care, Leadership, Technology/ Informatics, Teamwork and Continuous Quality Improvement.
The Clinical Nurse I works closely with the inter-professional health care team to facilitate the coordination of care across the continuum. The nurse focuses on developing the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age appropriate considerations of assigned patients.
The Clinical Nurse I requires consultation with more experienced clinicians and benefits from feedback while demonstrating growth in the ability to care for increasingly complex patients. The nurse demonstrates how nursing practice impacts the organizational vision, mission, and goals and the care delivery system. The nurse complies with all regulations and standards of regulatory and accrediting bodies.
