The Pharmacy Technician II is the full proficiency or journey level of the pharmacy technician job family where employees are responsible for independently performing the full range of duties of moderate difficulty and complexity as outlined under the Essential Functions and acts as preceptor to new staff in basic pharmacy technician functions. Performs sterile and non-sterile compounding for both hazardous and non-hazardous drugs, as well as distributes medications, inventories pharmaceutical supplies, and troubleshoots and escalates issues. Performs at least one advanced assignment. Understands the responsibilities regarding medication and pharmacy operations.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* Performs sterile and non-sterile compounding of non-hazardous drugs.
* Searches for medication orders in the EHR and processes returned/discontinued products.
* Assess and monitors labeled items in medications kits for expirations, and maintains inventory.
* Assesses documentations and triages and/or escalates when an environmental monitoring value is out-of-range.
* Distributes medications and trains new staff by auditing and/or providing just in time feedback for accuracy.
* Triages inventory related issues and removes outdated supplies and rotates products.
* Performs drip rounds and processes drips in the EHR as necessary per SOP.
* Troubleshoots Patient's Own Medication (POM) issues, and communicates effectively with the pharmacists when delivery system issues arise.
* Escalates appropriately in a timely manner, issues raised by nurses, Information Systems personnel, maintenance engineering, and supply chain or any other departments.
* Investigates any narcotic discrepancies and resolves within their scope of practice as necessary and reports discrepancy to a pharmacist.
* Performs Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) pulls, destock and restock inventory, participates in inventory count of controlled substances.
* Delivers medications to the MRI area utilizing appropriate MRI safety protocols.
* Performs at least one advanced assignment, as necessary, including but not limited to, TPN Compounding, hazardous sterile compounding, and receiver function.
