The Athletic Trainer assists physicians in providing care and interfacing between our community partners and our Children's Orthopedic Center sports medicine team. The Athletic Trainer is a part of a dynamic group that supports both in-office clinic work and outreach with community partners based on varying needs. In the clinic, the Athletic Trainer will assist with the day-to-day operations including patient intake, conducting initial assessments, and assisting with post-operative procedures and education. Athletic Trainers engaging in outreach assist with managing the care of athletes and the active population in community. The Athletic Trainer provides on-site care for high school athletes and our Young Athletes Academy partners including providing on-site sports medicine care, injury prevention, emergency medical coverage, and athlete education.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

Community Outreach:

* Provides athletic training services with affiliated high schools and Young Athletes Academy partners with the goals of injury prevention, performance maximization, and safe return to play.
* Oversee programmatic development with current and new strategic partners. Ensures an Emergency Action Plan is up to date and discussed with the school's Athletic director, coaches and athletes.
* Prevents, recognizes, and evaluates athletic injuries. Implements preventive and rehabilitation programs to treat athletic injuries using the appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments.
* Attends practices and athletic events and provides sideline and emergency medical coverage to student-athletes including baseline concussion testing.
* Assists with therapeutic treatment, including but not limited to, taping, wrapping, and bracing for preventative and protective treatment.
* Consults with licensed physician on injuries and treatment plans for our patients and athletes.
* Assists physicians with educational talks, including but not limited to, injury prevention and nutrition.
* Maintain daily records of treatment logs, injury reports and doctor's referrals.

In-Office Clinic:


* Prepares patient examination rooms prior to the visit to ensure that proper equipment and supplies are set-up for examinations, required procedures, and/or treatments. Cleans exam room following visits.
* Escorts patients to exam room, measures and records vital signs, documents medication, and reconciles medications by history.
* Performs initial screens. Reports patients' concerns and symptoms, reactions, changes (appropriate to age) to licensed clinic personnel.
* Performs templated/protocoled pre-charting, in-clinic documentation and scribing under the direction of the physician.
* Performs routine examination and treatment procedures and include: applying and removing bandages and dressings, removing sutures and casts, cleaning wounds and applying medications and dressings, preparing patients for examinations, and disinfecting treatment sites.
* Provides patient education on individualized home exercise program as a singular treatment or in conjunction with physical therapy during clinic visit under the direction of the physician.
* Assists Physical Therapist during Sports Motion Analysis assessments and injury prevention exercises with Electromyography.
* Assists physician with patient phone consultations and documentation.
* Provides care coordination for patients requiring assistance and support in accessing and managing their health care needs.
