The Registered Nurse functions as a primary liaison between patient and physician, via phone or in person. Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse implements the entire nursing process to include assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation for an assigned group of patients and provides quality patient care that is efficient, effective and evidence based.

Collaborates with the clinician and staff in the delivery of patient care.

• Independently, provides general education and nursing care to patients via telephone or in person. Responds to and resolves patient/family questions and needs.

• Triages and schedules patients as appropriate, ensuring appointment preferences are given to patients in emergency situations.

• Documents clinical information, including patient phone calls and maintains accurate and complete patient documentation according to medical profession standards. Accurately documents all patient encounter, phone triage, test results and office visits.

• Observes and/or records and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to clinicians.

• Acts as a liaison, coordinates, and integrates service for patients by continually collaborating with physician(s).

• Communicates the appropriate referral choice to community physician(s).

• Coordinates and integrates services within the clinic by continually collaborating with physician(s).

• Develops Facilitative relationships with office staff regarding both patient appointment scheduling and clinical information.

• Performs peer to peer review and obtains insurance prior authorization as needed.

• Processes requests for prescription refills according to established practice.

• Mentors new staff to ensure proper clinical training and processes is followed.

• Maintains patient confidentiality.

• Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines.

• Other duties as assigned based on location. Works on special projects as needed.

Back Office Duties:

• Prepares the necessary equipment and supplies for exam. Maintains inventory of supplies in examination rooms, replenishes as required. Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness.

• Prepares patient for examination or treatment and performs routine screening tests. Explains treatment procedures to patients. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.

• Reports patient’s concerns and symptoms, reactions, changes (appropriate to age) to the physician.

• Assists physicians with procedure set-ups, patient procedures and examinations.

• Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards. Administers allergy injections, immunizations, and other therapeutic injections according to correct dose and injection method.

• Collects and sends specimens to appropriate labs for testing per protocol.
